Can an older 630pvr that's never been used,have the software updated from its original version?

I think that if you connect and activate the PVR, it will automatically download its latest software.
However, Shaw's web-site has a list of "retired" PVRs and Digital Terminals. Hopefully, your cable-box is not on that list.
@VERNIE unfortunately, I do not have that information as it is a Shaw Direct PVR. I'd recommend touching base with a Shaw Direct team member for more information.
