@wynford  No problem at all. Ya we have to know when it is time to move on. I picked up an inexpensive Brother printer last year and it plays nice with the XB7s.

@wynford -- that "169.254.xxx.yyy" is a "place-holder", indicating that the printer has not accepted an IP-address (sent from the cable-modem).

On your computer, can you "Add Printer", using the printer's MAC-address (and/or the IPv6 value), rather than trying to use the "IPv4" IP-address?

Can you "print the Network Configuration Page", as per the image you posted?

I've been looking at printers... could I ask you what model Brother printer you have and does it also scan and copy?

I am sure Brother has other models that may work for you. I really liked the ease in setting it up on the network and the AirPrint.

@wynford -- my printer: Brother MFC-J470DW (both USB and wireless capability)

works fine with my XB7 cable-modem, worked fine with my Hitron cable-modem, and worked fine with a predecessor cable-modem.

Yes, it prints, sends/receives FAX, scans (using Windows Fax and Scan), and takes less-expensive "generic" ink (black &  3 colours), and has been working flawlessly for many years. I give it a 10-out-of-10.

Occasionally, it does a "self-cleaning", so that the ink cartridges have never dried-out on me, if I don't print the minimal "one page per week" that is recommended for most ink-jet printers.
