@RGK79 -- presumably, your camera system has a "private" IP-address (namely 192.168.0.xxx if you have a Hitron modem, or 10.0.0.yyy if you have a BlueCurve modem), and connects, via WiFi, to your cable-modem.
To communicate "through" the modem to the "private" IP-address is where "port-forwarding" is useful - all traffic from the Internet to a specific port (a number between 1 and 65535) to your "public" IP-address (consumed by your modem) can be "forwarded" to the private IP-address of your camera system.
Remember to consider "privacy" -- if you establish the above setup, be sure that you are the ONLY person on the Internet who can connect to your camera system.
