Does Shaw have any new hardware coming out in the near future? Perhaps a New Modem or Set Top box?  i've been reading conflicting accounts of what cable modem you should try and get or just wait to see if they bring out a new one

on that note if someone Currently has the Arris XB6 Modem, would you guys Swap it out for the tecnicolor xb6 as alot of people are saying that one is just better all around

Hey darith,

Thank you for reaching out! I haven't heard of any news on new hardware coming out. If/when we have new hardware released, we will certainly post it here on Community and at Shaw.ca.

As for the BlueCurve Modem, are you noticing issues with the Arris version? Swapping out to the Technicolour version may not fix the issues you are experiencing. Keep me posted.

Cheers,

Shaw needs to get an update about what is coming in the future and how long were going to have to wait for gigabyte wifi since right now their getting left behind by all the competition which will soon cause loss of customer going to a faster service.

Did you mean "gigabyte" or "gigabit" ?  There are 8 bits in a byte.

Are you talking about a WiFi connection or a connection using a CAT-6 Ethernet-cable? You will need a CAT-6 cable to get more than 1 gigabit per second. [A "CAT-5e" cable is certified up to 1 gigabit per second.]

How fast is the WiFi adapter in your computer?

> since right now they're getting left behind by all the competition

How many web-sites are capable of sending data at gigabit speeds?  Only a few. Plus, if the web-site is trying to simultaneously send to two different, but otherwise equal, computers, each computer will only get 500 Mbps. Shaw's "Internet 600" is capable of receiving at 500 Mbps.

At the current time, an Ethernet adapter that supports faster-than-1-gigabit speeds is quite expensive.

Some of this advertising for "fast Internet" is similar to the automobile advertising -- "buy this vehicle, because it can go over 300 Km/hour, but it can do it legally only on the German Autobahn, not through your local fast-food's drive-through lane".

> which will soon cause loss of customer going to a faster service.

Really? Is theoretical speed the only consideration?  How much money can you afford each month to pay for "gigabyte" service, when only a very-few web-servers can deliver "gigabit" service?

Even if you do have the capability to send large files (High Energy Physics datasets, or large video files) at better than gigabit speed, the computer receiving those types of streams must have the ability to receive (and store to a Solid State Device) at the same speed.

Consumers wanting/needing faster-than-gigabit speeds need to upgrade their hardware. So, which is first? Computers faster than 1 Gbps, or Internet Service Providers rolling-out faster than 1 Gbps service?

Are you employed by TELUS ?

After running the Shaw SpeedTest today, the window scrolled-down to promote "Shaw+Fibre" with gigabit speeds.  Yesterday, it promoted "Internet 600".

Now, it seems like "Internet 600" is not available to new customers.

They either get "Internet 300" or "Internet 1000", and a BlueCurve modem/router.
