Without a subscription, see: https://support.shaw.ca/t5/service-updates-outages/tkb-p/service-updates
to see scheduled (and random) outages in your region.
What backup plans will work when a tree falls on the Shaw cables between two telephone-posts on your street?
What backup plans will work when a ship's anchor snags an underwater BC Hydro line between Vancouver Island and the BC Mainland?
Yesterday, in downtown Vancouver, there was a huge explosion, at a power-distribution centre. Two people were hospitalized, with burns. Such an outage might not be within Shaw's ability to quickly remediate (backup diesel generator and lots of rewiring by BC Hydro's electricians).
