The Shaw email service frequently and irregularly "breaks" -- the fault of the outgoing mail server.

I'm tired of this irritation.
That connection to Shaw's "outgoing" mail-server has been consistently good for me.
What error-message(s) are you getting?
Care to reveal the host-name of the server that you have configured your system to use, e.g., "smtp.shaw.ca", and your location (Spuzzum? Hope? Youbou?). Such details would help diagnose the problem.
I sometimes have had the same problem. It tends to only affect one account I've set up and the others work fine. Not sure why it does that and I've complained. For now mine is working.
