Trying to use 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port

Hi,

I have a new Gateway 2.0 (XB7) and it has 4 ethernet ports in the back with one being 2.5 Gbps, but went I plug an ethernet cord into to the port and then into my tv (Samsung smart tv about 5 yrs old), my tv keeps saying it disconnecting from the internet but when I use the other 3 ports I do not get this error message. I have tried using 2 different cables and get the same results.

I would like to use all 4 ports if possible. I have plugged into it my Shaw Blue Curve TV (this fixed issues we have with had with it when using is wirelessly), I also have  Smart TV, Amp and DVD player all use ethernet cables.

Questions:

Is there a special cable you need to use for the 2.5 Gbps?

Is the 2.5 Gbps only compatible with certain devices?

Should I be using the 2.5 Gbps port for Blue Curve(currently in another port and works great)?

#1:  Is there a special cable you need to use for the 2.5 Gbps?

Yes. Avoid "CAT 5" (maximum of 100 Mbps) and "CAT 5e" (maximum of 1000 Mbps). Use "CAT 6" or "CAT 8" cables.

#2: Is the 2.5 Gbps only compatible with certain devices?

Yes. Your computer will need a (expensive?) network adapter that is faster than the common 10/100/1000 adapters in most computers.

Otherwise, the 2.5 Gbps connection will downgrade itself to 1.0 Gbps.
