Why so slow?

I'm currently using a Hitron CGNM-2250 DOCSIS 3.0 WiFi Modem with the 300 Mbps down / 15 Mbps up plan from SHAW. Now I'm getting slightly better on both, so I'm getting what I pay for. The problem is that according to what I have read, the maximum speed that DOCSIS 3.0 is capable of is 1200 Mbps down / 240 Mbps up ( or a 5:1 ratio ).  Shaw is giving us a 20:1 ratio.  Other vendors like MTS have 300 / 300 plans. Now granted they are on fibre, but regardless, if SHAW wants to keep competing, their 300 / 15 plan should be 300 / 60 as a minimum. So why isn't it?

Now I have been receiving emails about the new BlueCurve Gateway which is DOCSIS 3.1. The potential speeds of this standard are 10Gbps down /  2 Gbps up..  And Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 has been created to provide 10 Gbps speeds for both upload and download directions.  So any chance SHAW is going to take advantage of these speed potentials... or should we all go find a fibre stream?
