How To: Update phone from displaying the wrong phone number

When changing phone numbers, including when you port in your phone number from a previous wireless provider, your phone may show the old phone number. This could impact your ability to use certain services such as iMessage, RCS, and Facetime.

On All Devices

To update the number that your phone shows, you will need to send two text messages following the steps below:

Text 1

1. Create a new text message to the following short code: 41111
2. In the message, type: setup
3. Press Send
   
   

Text 2

1. Create a new text message to the following short code: 40001
2. In the message, type: sim
3. Press Send
4. Restart your phone
   
   

This should resolve the issue with the wrong phone number displaying.

If you are using an Apple device and the above steps did not correct the issue, see below for additional troubleshooting steps.

On Apple Devices

If the steps above did not resolve the issue for your Apple device, try the solution below:

1. Go to Settings
2. Tap Phone
3. Tap My Number
4. Use the delete button to remove the incorrect number
5. Use the keypad to enter the correct number
6. Restart your iPhone
