What is the difference between Auto Detect ad Expert Mode in the Audio settings?

Just wondering what the actual difference between these two modes are and what does Expert Mode offer over Auto Detect?

About the only thing I can audibly tell is that Expert Mode outputs things at a higher volume volume (measured around 6dB higher on my phone's SPL meter).
