Learn how to program your remote to control your TV, PVR, DVD/Blu-Ray and more. This guide will show you how to program your remote to control additional entertainment devices as well as outline the other programming features available on your remote. 

The legacy Shaw remote controls are listed below from current to legacy. You can find more information on Shaw remotes at: URCsupport.com/shaw. (Note: urcsupport.com is a third-party website and is not officially endorsed by Rogers).

Identifying your remote control

If you are using Ignite TV (formerly known as BlueCurve TV) services, you need an Ignite TV Remote (formerly BlueCurve TV Remote) or Ignite Large Button Remote for Ignite TV boxes. Please refer to the images below to determine which remote you are currently using.

Note: If you're having issues programming your remote, try the following:

  • Make sure your cable box is plugged in directly to the TV
  • Replace your remote batteries
  • Power cycle your cable box (unplug the power for 30 seconds and then plug it back in)

Program your Ignite TV remote

Program your Ignite Streaming remote

When activating Ignite Streaming (formerly known as Shaw Stream), there will be on-screen instructions to walk you through pairing the remote. Just follow the steps on-screen to pair the remote for voice and to control your TV and/or audio device.

Program your Ignite Large Button Voice Remote

The Large Button Voice Remote works with Ignite TV (formerly known as BlueCurve TV) and Ignite Streaming (formerly known as Shaw Stream). It's available at no additional cost upon request.

Program your Gateway TV remote

To program your Gateway remote control with your television and audio devices, start by powering on the equipment you would like to program into the remote and then follow these steps:

  1. Locate the code for your television from the user’s guide that came with your Shaw remote, or see the digital Gateway Remote Manual.
  2. Press and hold the MENU and OK buttons while pointing towards the TV until the POWER button on top of the remote flashes twice, and then release both buttons
  3. Enter the code you retrieved in step one. The POWER button should flash twice
  4. Aim the remote at the television and then press the POWER key. If the television powers off you have successfully programmed your Shaw remote. If not, please select a different code for your brand of television and repeat the process
  5. To program your AUDIO device please repeat steps 1-4 with the audio device code.

 
Note: The Shaw Gateway remote can only be programmed to control the volume on one device at a time. If you prefer the audio system to control the volume, please program the audio system after you have programmed the TV. If you need to change the device which controls your volume, please complete the following steps:
 
Volume control through your television set:

  1. Press and hold the MENU and OK buttons until the POWER button flashes twice, and then release both buttons
  2. Enter in code 9 – 9 – 3 – 1 (The power button will flash twice to confirm)

 
Volume control through your audio system:

  1. Press and hold the MENU and OK buttons until the POWER button flashes twice, and then release both buttons.
  2. Enter in code 9 – 9 – 3 – 3 (The power button will flash twice to confirm)

Program your Champ TV remote

The legacy Shaw Champ Remote Control is only programmable with your television set. To program your Champ remote with your television set, please start by powering on the television and then follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the SETUP key until the LED blinks twice, then release
  2. Press the TV Power key
  3. Press and hold down the OK key
  4. Let go of the OK key when the TV turns off. Once this has occurred the setup should now be complete

Program your Champion TV remote

To program your Champion remote with your television set and other devices, please start by powering on the television and then follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the SETUP key until the LED blinks twice, then release
  2. Press the TV key or the device mode key to be programmed
  3. Press and hold down the OK key
  4. Let go of the OK key when the TV turns off. Once this has occurred the setup should now be complete

Program your Atlas TV remote

The legacy Shaw Atlas remote control is no longer being distributed and has been discontinued.

Follow these steps to program your Atlas remote control.

To program your Atlas/Backlit Remote control, you will first need to turn on the device you would like to program with the remote (for example your television, audio system Blu-Ray or DVD player). Once powered on, proceed with the following directions:

  1. Locate the code for your device from the user’s guide that came with your Shaw remote, or from the Atlas Remote Manual.
  2. Press the mode key on the top of the remote for the device you would like to set up (for example: VCR, DVD, AUD, or TV)
  3. Press and hold the SETUP button on the remote until the mode key (VCR, DVD, AUD, or TV) flashes twice in a row
  4. Enter the code found in step one
  5. Press the POWER button on your remote to test your equipment. If the device turns off, the programming was successful. If the device does not power off repeat steps 1-4 with the next code for your equipment

 
Master Power

The Atlas remote can also be set up for master power, which allows the main power button to control the on/off power for all of your equipment at once, so you don't have to select and power on/off each device separately.
 
To set up master power:

  1. Press and hold SETUP on the Shaw remote control until the mode key (CBL) flashes twice in a row
  2. Enter 9 – 9 – 5 on the keypad
  3. Press the Power button once
  4. Press the mode key for the first device you want in the power sequence (for example: CBL). Then, press Power once
  5. Repeat step 4 to add the other devices you would like to have included in the power sequence (for example: AUD then power, TV then power)
  6. Press the mode key, CBL, once
  7. Press and hold the SETUP button until the CBL button blinks twice

 
Locking Volume Controls to Audio Devices

If you are using an audio system to control the volume while watching TV you can program your remote to lock the volume button to work only with your stereo. To enable volume lock:

  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the mode key flashes twice in a row
  2. Enter the code 9 - 9 - 3
  3. Press the mode key on which your audio system was programmed (AUD, AUX, etc…). This will lock the volume to that device.

Program your Rogers Atlas TV remote

Follow these steps to program your Rogers Atlas remote control.

To program your Rogers Atlas Remote control, you will first need to turn on the device you would like to program with the remote (for example your television, audio system Blu-Ray or DVD player). Once powered on, proceed with the following directions:

  4. Enter the code found in step one
  5. Press the POWER button on your remote to test your equipment. If the device turns off, the programming was successful. If the device does not power off repeat steps 1-4 with the next code for your equipment

 
Master Power

The Rogers Atlas remote can also be set up for master power, which allows the main power button to control the on/off power for all of your equipment at once, so you don't have to select and power on/off each device separately.

Locking Volume Controls to Audio Devices

If you are using an audio system to control the volume while watching TV you can program your remote to lock the volume button to work only with your stereo. To enable volume lock:

  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the mode key flashes twice in a row
  2. Enter the code 9 - 9 - 3
  3. Press the mode key on which your audio system was programmed (AUD, AUX, etc…). This will lock the volume to that device.


Note: This remote has a few features that may be different than what you’re used to.

On Demand Button: This button will not take you directly to the On Demand store, instead use the B button to get there.

Skip Button: To scan ahead, press the ffwd.png (Fast-forward) button and then the play.png (Play) button when you’re ready to watch.

Program your Transport remote

The legacy Shaw Transport remote control is no longer being distributed and has been discontinued.

The Transport remote is programmable only with your television set, and cannot be programmed to work with any other device such as your DVD player or audio system. To program your TV with your Transport Remote please do the following:

  1. First locate the code for your television from the user’s guide that came with your Shaw remote, or from the Transport Remote Manual.
  2. Power on your television set
  3. Press and hold the SET button until the red light flashes twice, then release
  4. Enter the code for your television set, found in step 1. The red light will flash twice again to confirm the code was entered
  5. Press the POWER button. If the TV powers off then you will have successfully programmed your remote to work with your television set.
  6. If the TV has not powered off, then you will need to repeat steps 3-5 with the next available code for your brand of television
