PVR works fine manually, but does not respond to remotes tho' they work with the other PVR. Tried a reboot - no impact. Machine is old, sensor failing? Other ideas?

Weak batteries in the remote?
Contact Shaw. They will ship (via Canada Post) a replacement remote-control to you, at no charge.

It certainly is. Did you purchase it, or are you "renting" it?
Depending on which Shaw Internet plan that you are on, your plan may include the rental of a current-model PVR. If you avoid getting the "BlueCurve" PVR, then your current PVR and the additional PVR can co-exist on your account:
coaxial wall-outlet --> splitter --> DCT3416 --> HDMI #1
and ............................splitter --> additional PVR --> HDMI #2
This configuration allows you to view all your recorded content, before "retiring" the DCT3416.
Also, the additional PVR can view "compressed" channel-feeds, such as BC1 News, that your current PVR cannot decode.
