How to pair your Ignite Indoor/Outdoor Camera

For a screen-by-screen walkthrough of what you'll see in the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) app, check out: Setting up your Ignite Camera for the first time (iOS, Android).

Set up and test your camera(s) in the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) app at the outlet where the camera will be plugged in to make sure features are working before you install it permanently.

The power adapter is the part that connects to your WiFi. Make sure there's good WiFi signal in the area where you're plugging in the adapter. To improve performance, plug in the power adapter near your Ignite Gateway or WiFi Pods. Ensure the power adapter is visible and not blocked by furniture or other large objects. Check out more tips at Optimize your WiFi Experience.

  1. Launch the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) app.
  2. Select the Home tab at the bottom of the screen, then select the plus sign (+) icon in the top right corner to add a new device.
  3. Select Ignite Camera to get started.
  4. Place your camera at the desired location. If you plan to install the camera outdoors, place it near the indoor power outlet where you plan to permanently plug it in. (If placing outdoors, be sure your camera is paired and working at the chosen indoor power plug before drilling any holes or permanently mounting at desired spot.)
  5. Connect the camera’s ethernet cable to the power adapter, then plug the power adapter into the chosen indoor power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is not controlled by a light switch.
  6. Wait for the camera to power up. When the light on the front of the camera is blinking white, your camera is ready for pairing. If you don’t see a light, you'll need to reset the camera and power adapter.
    • Camera body reset:
      1. Rotate the camera 90 degrees to access the reset button.
      2. Press and hold the reset button for 20 seconds.
    • Power adapter reset:
      1. Find the pin-hole reset button on the power adapter located below the WPS button.
      2. Using a pin or paperclip, press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds.
      3. LED light will show solid white while booting and flashing white when ready for pairing.
  7. Follow the in-app prompts in the Ignite HomeConnect app to pair your camera. Once paired, the app will connect your camera to your home WiFi. Do not exit the app during this process or you may need to start over.
  8. Continue to follow the in-app prompts to customize your camera experience, enabling features like optional 24/7 continuous video recording, 2-way voice communication and motion notifications.
  9. Once you're connected, you're ready to mount your camera(s) in their final location.

Outdoor camera placement tips

Plan and measure the path from the camera to the wall outlet.

  • Windows and doors are useful reference points when measuring indoors and out.
  • Look for a location that provides shelter, like under an overhang. This will help minimize rain or snow sticking to the camera lens.
  • Holes should typically be drilled at least eight inches from corners.
  • Camera should be positioned 8-10 feet from the ground to capture fine details and keep your camera out of easy reach.
  • Do not point cameras directly at the sun. Bright light causes glare and high contrast in your feed and makes it hard to see. Think about the sun’s movement and angle your camera for indirect light.
  • If you're going to secure the cable to the inside walls or baseboard, include the path in your measurements.
  • The power adapter is not weatherproof and must be plugged indoors.
  • If the path is longer than 12 feet, you'll need additional ethernet cable and couplers. Make sure they're rated for the location where they will be used (indoors or outdoors).
  • Ensure the power outlet you're using is not controlled by a wall switch. Using a power strip or extension cord may increase the chances of the pairing process failing.

Note: You will be solely responsible for the placement of cameras. We will not be responsible for replacement of cameras or any other loss associated with camera placement. Don’t point cameras in places or areas where individuals may have a heightened expectation of privacy. Terms of use.

Outdoor installation

  1. Use an impact drill for mortar, brick, stucco, and concrete, if possible. Be careful when drilling, there could be electrical wiring or water pipes hidden inside the wall. Stud finders with electrical detection can be helpful when choosing where to drill.
  2. Using a 5/8” drill bit, drill through the wall at a slight upward angle. Even though you will apply silicone sealant around the cable, this slope helps to prevent moisture from entering your walls.
  3. Connect the power cord to the power adapter, and the adapter into an indoor outlet. Wait for the camera to come online with a solid blue light. This can take up to 3 minutes.
  4. Verify you can view the camera feed in the Home tab in your Ignite HomeConnect app.
  5. Position the camera where you want to install it and mark the locations of the drill holes.
    • If you're using only the provided screws (wood or vinyl), use a 1/8” drill bit.
    • If using anchors (plaster, stone, brick, stucco), use a 1/4” drill bit.
  6. Mount the camera securely using the included anchors (recommended) and screws.
  7. Use the Ignite HomeConnect app to view the camera feed so you can adjust the camera angle as needed.
  8. You can now use your cable clips to tidy the cable both inside and outside.
  9. Seal the exterior cable hole with silicone sealant.

Indoor installation

Not mounting your camera

  1. If you’re placing your camera on a shelf or piece of furniture, then there's no need to mount it. Connect the power cord to the power adapter and plug it in to the wall outlet.
  2. Check the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) app to view your camera feed and adjust the camera position until you're satisfied with the view. Add any cable clips to secure the cables to the wall if desired.

Wall mounting your camera

  1. With your camera already paired, mark and drill two pilot holes in your chosen camera location:
    • If using anchors (drywall, plaster, stone, or brick), use a 1/4” drill bit.
    • If you are using only the provided screws (wood or vinyl), use a 1/8” drill bit
  2. Mount the camera securely using the included anchors (recommended) and screws.
  3. Use the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) app to view the camera feed so you can adjust the camera angle as needed.
