My Shaw website: 45 cookies?

I understand the use of a few cookies for Shaw or their website to recognize you, but I recently discovered that the "remember me" option adds over 45 cookies. This goes beyond just recognizing users on return visits, indicating a focus on extensive web tracking, which raises privacy concerns.

Furthermore, users with a SMARTDNS service may encounter issues signing in, likely due to Shaw's site preventing proactive measures to block tracking.

This behavior suggests Shaw is prioritizing tracking over user privacy, which is an unethical practice, especially without clear disclosure. It would be beneficial if someone from Shaw's backend web development team could clarify their approach without gaslighting.

@Upfront6891  Hi, yes boy that is a lot of cookies for a single site.  Personally I never use the remember me feature, no biggie just to sign in again if I have closed my browser, less cookies as well.  There is no one from Rogers/Shaw on this forum anymore so nobody from Shaw's backend will be answering you on here, it's just us community volunteers.  Sorry couldn't really be any help.

I see the following list of Cookies:

shaw.ca
6 MB • 87 cookies
___________

chatapps-services.shaw.ca
0 bytes • 1 cookie

my.shaw.ca
1 MB • 1 cookie

register.shaw.ca
504 KB • 0 cookies

rogersxfinitystream.shaw.ca
28 KB • 1 cookie

signin.shaw.ca
3 KB • 1 cookie

speedtest.shaw.ca
1 MB • 0 cookies

support.shaw.ca
2 MB • 12 cookies

webmail.shaw.ca
194 bytes • 5 cookies

www.shaw.ca
1 MB • 7 cookies

shaw.ca
0 bytes • 59 cookies

---------------

Many of those "59 cookies" seem to be "fluff", but I don't know how to decode them, and whether they are "settings" or "personal info".

I suppose that I can delete those "chat" and "support" and "register" and "speedtest" cookies.

I probably need to keep the "streaming" and the "webmail" and "my" cookies, to make logging-on happen more quickly.

YMMV.

Yes, it would, but in the last few years, there have been no postings to this forum by any person who has a handle that starts with "shaw-" -- to indicate that they are an employee.  Perhaps, Rogers "outplaced" those employees, or told them to stop posting, or "reassigned" those employees, as part of the "Rogers Together With Shaw" merger.

Don't hold your breath, asking for the impossible.
