Many devices that are single band 2.4 GHz capable only, such as certain printers, home security, cameras, Internet of Things (IoT) devices will not connect to a network that is using band steering because of compatibility limitations. Learn how to connect your devices without needing to disable band steering. These steps only apply to the Fibre+ Gateway (XB6) & Fibre+ Gateway 2.0 (XB7).

Steps

  1. Open an Internet browser (e.g. Google Chrome) and locate the address bar.
  2. In the address bar (not search bar), type in the following: 10.0.0.1 and press the enter key on your keyboard.
  3. You will be presented with your WiFi modem login page
  4. Enter the following information:
    1. Username: admin
    2. Password: password
      (These are the default login credentials. If you have previously changed your password, use that instead).
  5. Select the Login button
    • Note: This feature is only available through the modem admin page, not the BlueCurve Home app

  6. Navigate to Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi
  7. Click on Edit for 5 GHz Frequency Band

  8. Click on Disable and then Save Settings

    Note: After disabling 5 GHz, all wireless devices will switch to 2.4GHz automatically as it has the same SSID as 5 GHz. Additionally, any Pods will go offline for approximately 10-15 minutes. 
  9. Connect the device in question to the network
  10. Once you have confirmed the device is connected, go back to step 8 and select Enable
  11. Once the 5 GHz network is enabled again, pods will automatically come back online and the devices from step 9 will remain connected to the 2.4 GHz band.
    • Note: It may take several minutes for devices to switch back to 5 GHz once it has been re-enabled
