Learn how to access and set up parental controls on the Ignite WiFi Gateway  (formerly known as Fibre+ Gateway). The Gateway includes a number of parental control options which are accessible through either the Admin Tool or the Ignite HomeConnect App (formerly known as BlueCurve Home App). Using these options, you can restrict access to specific websites, keywords, services or devices on your network to ensure a safe experience for all users.

How to access parental controls

To access parental control settings on the Ignite WiFi Gateway:

 

  1. Enter 10.0.0.1 into the address bar of your Internet browser.

    10.0.0.1 in Browser

     

  2. Log in to the modem with the following information:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: password
      (These are the default login credentials for the admin tool. If you have previously changed your password, use that instead).
  3. Select Parental Control from the menu on the left.

  4. From here you can choose to configure Managed Sites and Keywords or Managed Services.  Managed Devices is available only from internet.shaw.ca or the Ignite HomeConnect App.

How to setup Managed Sites and Keywords

Managed Sites allows you to control access to specific websites or keywords on the Internet. These controls can be set to be active always, or only on certain days and times.

To setup Managed Sites and Keywords:

  1. Access parental controls
  2. Select Managed Sites from the menu on the left.

  3. Click the + ADD button beside Blocked Sites or Blocked Keywords to add an entry.

    1. Add a Blocked Site.
      1. Enter the URL of the website you'd like to restrict access to.
      2. If you'd like this block to be active at all times, leave the Always Block? toggle set to Yes.
      3. To specify times and/or days for the block, set the Always Block? toggle to No, and select your desired options.

      4. Click SAVE when finished.

    2. Add a Blocked Keyword.
      1. Enter the keyword that you'd like to block.
      2. If you'd like this block to be active at all times, leave the Always Block? toggle set to Yes.
      3. To specify times and/or days for the block, set the Always Block? toggle to No, and select your desired options.

      4. Click SAVE when finished.

  4. Your chosen website and keyword restrictions will now show up on the Managed Sites page.

How to setup Managed Services

Managed services allows you to control access to specific services on the Internet by protocol type and port range. These controls can be set to be active always, or only on certain days and times. You may set any device on your network to be trusted, allowing it to bypass these blocks.

 

To setup Managed Services:

  1. Access parental controls
  2. Select Managed Services from the menu on the left.

  3. Click the + ADD button beside Blocked Services to add an entry.
  4. Enter the information for the service you'd like to block.

  5. Click SAVE when finished.

How to set up Managed Devices

Managed devices allows you to control Internet access for devices on your network. These controls can be set to be active always, or only on certain days and times.

Managed Devices is available only from the Ignite HomeConnect App.

See How to set Parental Controls with Ignite HomeConnect

  1. Open the Ignite HomeConnect App.
  2. Select the Profile you want to set Parental Controls for.
  3. Scroll down to Profile Preferences and select Edit next to Parental Controls.
  4. Select On to apply Parental Control settings to all devices within the profile.
  5. Select Apply Changes to save your settings.
    • Devices in the selected profile now have a reduced risk of accessing objectionable websites and apps, and have protective search settings enabled for Google, Bing, and YouTube.

Note: Content that was already accessed on a device may be saved and still accessible on that device for up to 24 hours.
