@sablougle -- with the Gateway, I never had this issue
Your previous Gateway PVR recorded to a disk-drive inside the unit. If the disk-drive did not have any problems recording a show, then playback of the recording should be smooth. Your current BlueCurve records to the "Shaw Cloud". So, when you do a playback, you need a solid Internet connection, as @rstra indicated. That's the primary difference between the two devices.
