I have a Sony NU8000 and am experiencing the same thing. The reds seem especially saturated.
I hope Shaw can sort this out as it sure seems like a common problem.
Yes I'm experiencing the exact same over saturation on my Sony x900h. TV has been professionally calibrated beautiful picture on apps like Netflix and prime. No color issues on any other channels with shaw just the sports net 4k channels. I also believe this to be a source issue, hopefully it will get addressed.
Hey all! Apologies for the delayed reply, please note this platform is not closely monitored like our other platforms as it is a peer-to-peer forum.
@GVP1 Any resolution? I just turned on sports net 4K for the first time today and noticed the same thing!
Does this saturation issue happen on just that 1 channel? or on all channels?
If it is affecting just your one channel, it is possible that that network is having trouble with its feed. But to be safe, and to make sure there are no factors from our end, I would also recommend reaching out to our Support Specialists as they can provide further troubleshooting if needed. The team can be reached at: https://www.shaw.ca/contact-us
Cheers!
It is just the one channel. I have an OLED TV, 4K HDR, and all other 4K content looks great.
It seems like it could potentially be a source issue as many others are experiencing the same thing. Please advise if Shaw is going to investigate this issue on their end.
@shaw-monica Oops forgot to tag you in my above reply
Same here. I signed up for Shaw bluecurve cable a couple weeks ago. I have many for 4K devices such as Apple TV, PS5 and 4K bluray player hooked up to my Sony 900h and all look great. Regular channels look good but both Sportsnet 4K channels are way too red. Can't compare to TSN as not available in my area yet. Hopefully gets fixed soon.
Hi @MairJ , @kenohrn , @GVP1 , @jink8001 , @rstra , @Fernand2 , @ToddyCanuck , @daleshort , and anyone else I missed, I was just reading up on 4K on Shaw BlueCurve TV, and noticed that HDR is not enabled/available on Shaw 4K Channels or 4K streaming, could this be a reason for your problems with the colour saturation that you are having. Here is a quote from the Shaw Support Page I was looking at.
What is the difference between 4K UHD HDR and 4K UHD SDR?
Which 4K format does Shaw use to deliver 4K channels?
Not sure is this answers your query or not, and sorry doesn't solve it either.
Thanks good to know. Does anyone know if setting the bluecurve video settings to best available forces the box to upscale all channels to 4K HDR? I know the older shaw boxes had a video setting called "native" which let the incoming signal to be displayed in the original video feed. Usually 720p or 1080i. I'm wondering if the bluecurve is upscaling everything to 4K HDR and causing the oversaturation.
Hi @MairJ , good question but don't have an answer for you on the upscaling to 4K. Remember though Shaw BlueCurve is NOT HDR enabled, that feature has not been activated. You will get 4K picture on a 4K channel but no HDR, same goes for Netflix or YouTube apps that you access through the BlueCurve system they are also non HDR, because HDR is not enabled on the system. I'm kinda wondering if a persons 4ktv is set for HDR but the actual signal coming in is non HDR if it might be confusing the poor tv?.
