@WEMwalkers -- I have the same issue with the Wi-Fi working fine but the wired ethernet not working at first.
Did the laptop have an active WiFi connection to your cable-modem, before you connected an Ethernet cable between the laptop and your cable-modem? If so, it might take a while for your
> complete for the second time. Not getting a very fast speed though not sure about that.
Does your laptop have a 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter, or just 10/100 ?
Read the tiny print along the length of your Ethernet cable. If you see "CAT-5", then that cable is limited to 100 Mbps. Replace it with a "CAT-5e" or "CAT-6" cable, to get up to 1000 Mbps (if your contract with Shaw gives you that speed).
