I'm currently having the same issue. It sounds like a mosquito constantly buzzing around your head and gives me an instant head ache if I'm near it.
I tried to have shaw send me a Cisco or Hiltron modem, since they have them listed on their website as modems that they offer. One person offered me the Hiltron but when they switched me to billing they magically couldn't send me one. Absolutely rude and unhelpful. How does a multi-billion dollar company only have one awful modem that they sell? It seems like everyone is having the same issue as me.

As others have mentioned, in several threads within this discussion forum, switching from the XB6 to the very-quiet XB7 eliminates the noise from the fan.
I wish someone from tech support had suggested that. They kept trying to send me a new XB6 stating that the fan “might be better”.
@Stephbon Depending on when you switched to Telus, the xb7 may not have been available.
