Was told by Rogers/Shaw I had to update to a new modem, because my old one was too old.
So go though all the steps, bridge the CGM4140COM modem, so I can use my router.
Then though looking at WIFI Analyzer that there's 2 ghost (unnamed) networks really close to me that is over powering my router. Odd, but ok. after a bit of trial and error deduce that the signal is coming from my office.
Power off My router, the ghost networks remain, power off the bridged modem, The 2.4 and 5ghz ghost network disappear. Power back on the bridged modem, the ghost networks reappear. Power back up my router, and my routers Wifi networks appears.
So Weird. But ok.. Load up my internet browser UnBridge the modem, the ghost networks now have names.. so get the idea to go into the wifi setting where oddly most everything is greyed out, download and try the shaw Xfinity app and get frustrated with the lack of options. disable the wifi thought the wifi settings, the named networks disappear, and the ghost networks reappear.. fiddle around and go though all the settings, again, don't really find anything of consequence. try to call in but they are closed..
So go back into wifi again disable the 2.4 and 5ghz networks on the modem, and notice that the networks are actually gone now? No ghost networks, just the networks I know that are around me. rebridge the modem, and check again, the modem still appears NOT to be putting out a wifi signal, which is what I want.
So now I'm writing this for anyone else that comes across this issue, pondering why I had to do that song and dance, but decidedly less frustrated.
I hope this helps someone, I also hope Rogers/Shaw resolves this issue...
@Senger -- the latest Rogers TV boxes use WiFi to connect to the latest cable-modems.
Those WiFi channels are distinct from the 2.4 & 5 Ghz networks that the cable-modem broadcasts.
Do you have one (or more) of those latest TV boxes? They are about the size of a pack of (ugh!) cigarettes. They have one cable for electrical power, and one HDMI cable to connect to your TV.
@Senger The hidden network is used to interface with the Rogers Home Security devices. Glad that you were able to find a way to disable that network.
