@coopman49 -- typically, one connects the HDMI-output port on the Shaw TV box into an HDMI-input port on the receiver, and use another HDMI cable for HDMI-output from the receiver to the HDMI-input port on your TV. Then, configure the receiver to route the audio-output from the TV box into your home-theatre speakers, instead of the default -- routing the audio-output from the receiver through the HDMI cable into your TV.
Or, if your TV has "optical output", and your receiver has "optical input", then you could:

Strange. A friend (2.5 hours away by automobile) has the latest Shaw TV hardware, and his surround-sound is working fine. He had Shaw/Rogers do the complete setup, since it was outside of his skill-set to do a complete "self-install".
@Soumilinon Without knowing the capabilities of your receiver….You have a couple of possible options:
1. HDMI from cable box to receiver and HDMI out from receiver to TV, or
2. HDMI from cable box to TV and HDMI-ARC from TV to receiver.
I prefer option 2, if you have apps on your TV that you use, the audio will play through the receiver.
