The NDP are desperate (to split the vote). They are all talk and nothing more. What JS has shown us is he'll support JT in a heartbeat. Anyways, my thoughts on voting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nyvxt1svxso
@michaelstein -- the "fine print" in the two-year Value Plan contract freezes the monthly rate for TV and Internet for two years, and says that this "freeze" does not apply to other services, e.g., telephone or rentals of 2nd/3rd TV boxes, or for "on-demand" orders. So, that is not "gouging".
The Federal NDP can say whatever they want, until after the next Federal Election, and then only if they win enough seats to become the government.
But, all this is politics, and is not really relevant to this discussion forum for customers with Shaw/Rogers issues.
Interesting to note that you're mentioning the "fine print" but where is it to be found?
When the Shaw customer service representative talks with the customer about the 2 year value plan, they discuss all of the services
"(TV, Internet, phone, etc") but do not mention anything about the devices other than they are "included" or "discounted"
Once you have accepted the contract, the shaw representative sends an e-mail titled "Your Order Summary" to your e-mail address
and that is believed to be "the contract". This official document lays out a summary of the monthly charges for the next 24 months.
There is no "fine print" on this document that states "this "freeze" does not apply to other services".
Where are you reading "this line"? Are you looking at "your contract" or "someone else's"?
In the past, Shaw has discounted the upgrade of the "ignite box" to previous customer who had "Purchased" the Motorolla
or other brand of "boxes" in the past. Ie. "No Charge"Your Order Summary
This "Order Summary" can be noted as an "Official Contract"
@michaelstein , The order summary is not the "Official Contract" it is a Summary only, You don't seem to understand that. I have had a similar issue happen to me recently, I opened up a line of credit with my bank and they had me sign a document that they had explained in summary what my contract with them entailed, well when I got home and started to read all the extra "fine print stuff" that was never mentioned to me in the summary, I was shocked at some of the entries that were never explained to me but since I had 2 days to read all the fine print and admendments before accepting they were totally within their legal rights, It is almost unreal that someone doesn't know or realize that almost every contract in existence has "fine print" exclusions and it is your duty not the seller to make sure you understand and if you don't understand (ask someone for help). My gosh I've had Shaw for years and years and always knew that they could raise prices on added features and rental boxes even with a 2 year value plan because it has been in the fine print for years. long before
Rogers took over. Shaw just decided not to enforce their legal right but they always had the ability. What Rogers is doing maybe morally wrong but it is not legally wrong. I don't agree with what Rogers has done but I'm not shocked surprised because I knew they could do this at any time, which most people should have known if they had bothered to read and understand every paragraph in the complete contract, not a 1 page order summary, geez.
Is the $10 per month during the season only, or all year?? Ours was free at first, then $25 per month, now this extra $10 added. But I don’t know if the extra charge is all year, if so we’ll probably get rid of it.
@CottagerTV , most regrettably it is all year going forward for any extra tv boxes, if you are on a 2 year value plan then your first tv box is free. Make sure to complain to Rogers/Shaw about this situation, they may have a legal right but morally they are way off base, and you might get the charges reversed, just don't yell at them saying "you broke the contract", sometimes honey will get you further than vinegar.
the "Order Summary" is considered the "official contract". Why? The represenative over the phone, preparing the "service agreements"
sends it as an e-mail within seconds of the service agreement being mutually agreed upon. If you disagree with that, than understand this.
All of the additional box fees they added in September to my account were reversed when I showed the "Order Summary"? Again, why?
Because this is considered the "Official Contract" - as the "company" Shaw sent it in an e-mail while the "contract" was being
finalized or agreed upon. The "Order Summary" is considered a legal document. If you don't understand this than I guess
there is nothing further to be said.
@michaelstein , Boy you are thick as a brick. The only reason they reversed the charges is not because of your silly idea that the order summary is the entire contract, the end all be all. They reversed the charges to make you happy and keep you as a customer, nothing more. They did not have to, they chose to, big difference my friend. If they want to keep there customers they are going to have to reverse most customers charges, not because they legally have to but because of the backlash of customers that are complaining. Question does your order summary also contain all the clauses of if you cancel your contract and the amounts that you have to pay, does it include all the clauses which define terms and conditions of internet use and fair policy guidelines, my guess is no, but yet all those things and more are still a valid legal part of the contract, and are not on the order summary page. So in fact you are right nothing further needs to be said. Lesson for everyone read your entire contract ( stop playing the game, ohh I didn't know, that was never told to me) .
@michaelstein -- you could access Shaw Price Guarantee Terms to see:
Customers that have chosen a 2-year ValuePlan will receive a price guarantee on their base services under the agreement.
The monthly fees payable for the price guaranteed base service(s) during the stated promotional term(s) in your 2-year ValuePlan Agreement will not increase during the term as a result of normal rate increases applicable to all Shaw customers.
Price guarantees do not apply to any television add-ons, channels, channel packages, theme packs, rental equipment, phones services, phone add-ons (such as voicemail or call waiting), domestic or international long-distance charges, pay-per-use charges or third-party costs including, but not limited to, levies, surcharges, taxes or other fees required to be paid as a result of the Shaw services provided.
If you have a 2-year ValuePlan agreement with Shaw, please refer to your copy of this agreement for additional terms and conditions.
The "base services" are defined as TV and/or Internet.
That is the "fine print" that you asked about.
