For the last several days now, (since Sept 16 or so??) I haven't been able to log into the playstation network from my PS3 or my Laptop. I can get there on my cell phone as long as I'm not connected to my wifi.
Another Shaw user is able to connect without issue.
I reset my modem and I still can't connect. I set my DNS to use Google's DNS just in case it's an issue there, and still can't connect. So it's obviously some routing for my node vs my friend's node.
WHAT THE HELL! The fact that some shaw customers can connect and others can't is unacceptable!!!!
Please FIX!!
https://id.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/signin/
is the URL that just dies and can't get there for a freaking WEEK!!
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!
this JUST started happening. so the change HAS to be something with Shaw.
My modem has been reset to factory defaults and it still WON'T WORK!!
SOMETHING CHANGED ON MY NODE RECENTLY AND I WANT IT FIXED!!
@Constantinopole I haven't heard of any other reports of this issue. It is possible the site may have blocked your IP in error. Which modem do you have with us, do you have any 3rd party routers/switches attached?
Hello @shaw-tony,
I have a Hitron Modem on a Shaw 300 account. there are no other routers attached and I just had it reset to factory defaults yesterday by Shaw to ensure no firewall rules are at fault, so all initial firewall rules are set and it should have a new IP. I also reset the modem by unplugging the cable and power for 10-15 seconds and then plugging it all back in. same issue. Can maybe force an IP change but I don't think my IP is blocked by PSN at all, there would be no reason to do so.
Here's a test...go to https://playstation.com/en-ca/network. once the page loads, click "sign in" in the top right corner. It should prompt you for a userid and password for PSN. I get "The connection to the server timed out" error (almost instantaneously). This only JUST started and as other shaw users can get there without any port forwarding issues and default firewall rules, there has to have been a change on my Node that has occurred in the last week. A firmware update or something has happened somewhere either on my modem or on the Shaw Node that controls my modem. so I don't know if switching modems would work for example.
I can't get to the site on my PC, on my PlayStation 4 (which I bought because this happened on my PS3 and thought sony finally disabled access for PS3, so I spent $400 I didn't need to) I get an error that it can't connect to PSN. PlayStation is Wired in direclty to the Hitron modem.
On my cell phone, if I connect to my shaw wireless, I get the same "server timeout" error as I do on my laptop (also wired in). If I turn off wireless on my cell phone and just connect via LTE, then I can connect on my cell and my userid and password work. I can connect via laptop at work or other location. so it's not a problem with the PlayStation network at all. It's up and active.
Needless to say this is driving me nuts and I'm a little frustrated. Some playstation features and apps will not work unless you are connected to the PlayStation Network (PSN). I can still stream Netflix at least but other account features such as YouTube and games do not work.
DNS lookups and tracerts to id.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com all work so it doesn't appear to be a link in the chain.
Please look at all changes on my node made in last week. one of them is the issue.
@Constantinopole I checked your node and don't see any work/changes made in the past week. No issues or errors reported from our end here.
I'd recommend touching base with our technical support to further investigate or you can swap the modem at your local Shaw retailer as it may be faulty. I tested the website and it loads with no issue for me on the Shaw network.
@shaw-tony your last statement:
@shaw-tony wrote:I tested the website and it loads with no issue for me on the Shaw network.
EXACTLY MY POINT.
For the sake of argument, I put my PS4 in the DMZ on my shaw router...still the same problem. Cannot log into my PlayStation account and yet YOU CAN LOG IN by your own test. I can log in when not using my Shaw router. This means SOMETHING CHANGED SOMEWHERE!! In the last week or two weeks or some time and I just noticed it as more of an issue. (I'm not on my playstation constantly). My point is, it worked before, it doesn't now.
So what changes have been made on my node or on my modem in the last month that would suddenly affect this ability?? Would changing my modem even work? I am SO FREAKING FRUSTRATED as I called support and they are less than helpful because I get people back east instead of locally and they can't really help. They reset the modem to factory for me. Didn't work!!
GIVE ME A LOCAL TECH THAT ACTUALLY KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT NETWORKING and can check things out, bring a spare modem and test, or something.
some additional notes. I brought my work laptop home, I connect via vpn to the work servers and then login to my account. I then tried loging into the playstation network from my laptop and it works fine. The main thing that is different is the new IP address maybe??
So maybe someone @shaw-tony can force a new IP address on my modem and see if that works?
@Constantinopole no changes have been made to your node/area in the past 6 months from what I can see. I am unable to force a new IP address to your modem. The only way to change your IP is to swap it at your local Shaw retailer. Give that a try and let me know how it goes.
I have the same issue but all my other devices are working on the shaw wifi. If all you other computers and phones are connection over wifi then the issue is not shaw. It is a fault with the dns & tcip of your playstation. I resolved this by calling Sony support and they walked me through a complicated fix. So likely it is not that some shaw customers can connect and others can not. It more likely that issue is with your console.
