I think Shaw should put out detailed instructions on how to setup a wireless printer with the Gateway XBR7 router, what if anything that has to be changed in the router setup using the Bluecurve Home app and changed to what. I have tried everything to get my HP Photosmart All In One to connect with the HP Smart app and have had no luck. The HP Smart app sees both my wired and wireless printers, but won't set them up. The old Hitron router I had, I had no problems, Right now, my printer is wired and prints using the default Windows drivers to print and scan. Most other brands of printers should be basically the same in setting up.
@wynford -- your issue has been caused by your change in cable-modems.
The Hitron assigned an IP-address of the form "192.168.xxx.yyy" to your printer, and your printer has retained that value.
The XB7 assigns IP-addresses of the form "100.0.aaa.bbb" to your wired/wireless devices.
Those are two totally-different ranges of IP-addresses, which leads to the "unable to communicate" situation.
A "factory-reset" of your printer, to make it "forget" the "192.168..." IP-address should be sufficient for the printer to ask the XB7 for an IP-address that the printer (and Windows) can use to converse.
Or, the "networking" menu on your printer may be able to "manually" set:
Then, power-off the printer, and disconnect its power-cord. Reconnect the cord, and power-on the printer.
That should do it.
@wynford -- Or, see the HP video: https://youtu.be/Aen-jHjUsVo?t=100
This should start at the 100th second of the video, showing which buttons to press on your HP printer.
I've done a factory reset a few times and still won't connect even though HP Smart sees them and HP was of no help.
My printer doesn't have networking menu setup... just a wireless setup.
The XBR7 assigns a 10.0.0.1.
My HP printer finally died... making noise and getting error messages.
Bought a new HP deskjet 2700 all-in-one ($65.00) dual channel printer.
Hooked it up, installed the HP Smart software and what do you know, the HP software saw the printer and I didn't have to make any changes in the XB7 settings... the printer went straight to the 5GHz and no changes were made to the settings at all, not even the name or password... woohoo
