IPv6 Delegation

Hi all,

Is the IPv6 delegation assigned to me valid as long as I have an account with Shaw? Is it tied to the modem MAC address (i.e. it would change if the modem was replaced), or is it likely to dynamically change from time to time?

I would like to subdivide the /56 delegation into multiple /64s for use on my home network, and it would be a PITA if the delegation suddenly changed without warning...

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

The prefix is dynamic and can change, similar to the public IPv4 address assigned.

Thanks, Cdearborn!

Do you (or Shaw-Tony) know if it's possible to pay for a static prefix as a consumer? Or would I have to pay for business service?

Thanks,

Pete

Hey pstorkey

You will need to have a business account in order to subscribe to a static IP. You can find more details on our business plans here. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Further to Tony's reply, we do not currently supply static IPv6 prefixes, even to business customers. However please call in and request this!
