I DOWNLOADED, and Paid for NORD VPN (one of the fastest VPNs that should achieve more than 10 Mbps upload?)

I connected to servers in Canada, the US etc -- made my upload even slower,.  1 Mbps

I did this because my thoughts were maybe theres a server between me and wherever thats slowing me down?  Wouldn't this eliminate that issue?  Well, I tried bunches of different servers and my upload was still trash.

I shut down my computer also, and other computers in the house, disconnected everyone, fired up only 1 PC and the other PC's also have mega-slow upload.  So I do not think theres like some malware on one particular system or anything, plus I changed the network name and stuff and only 1 comp was connected and it was still a slow upload.

Man, wtf is going on?  This is driving me insane.

@dietpepsirocks -- regarding replacing the coaxial cable, that is more complicated since it goes through the wall to outside,

I was referring to a short length of coaxial cable.

One end od the cable connects to the BlueCurve.

I assumed that the other end of the cable connects to a wall-plate.

Coaxial-wall-socket.jpg

I was not referring to the coaxial cable behind this wall-plate, that goes through your walls to the Shaw "demarcation-box" on the outside of your home.

Sorry, but that was the wrong thing to do.

Without Nord VPN, your packets go through your cable-modem, to a Shaw router in Winnipeg (since you are there), and then to other routers, on their way to the IP-address of the remote server.

With Nord VPN active, your packets STILL go through your cable-modem, to the same Shaw router in Winnipeg, and then to other routers, to the Nord VPN server, and then from that server to the IP-address of the remote server.

Compare driving your own vehicle directly to your destination to driving your car to a car-rental agency, renting one of their cars, and driving that car to your destination. Of course, the latter path will take a longer time.

> I did this because my thoughts were maybe there's a server between me and wherever that's slowing me down?

There are no "servers" between your computer and the remote server, unless you call each router (as identified by the output from any "traceroute" utility program) as being specialized servers -- that just "route" packets.

Either you have some problems in the "path" between your computer and the remote server:

  • Ethernet cable between your computer and the cable-modem,
  • Coaxial cable between the cable-modem and the wall-jack,
  • Coaxial cables inside your walls that merge at Shaw's "demarcation-box",
  • A "coaxial-splitter" inside that box, to provide coaxial feeds to your cable-modem and to your TV,
  • The coaxial-cable between the demarcation-box and the nearest telephone-pole -- sometimes, this coaxial-cable is underground, instead of being visible)
  • Shaw's "concentrator" box up the telephone-pole (multiple coaxial cables from multiple adjacent houses connecting into this "concentrator",
  • Shaw's infrastructure running pole-to-pole up-and-down your street,
  • Shaw's infrastructure running from the next street to the local Shaw Distribution Centre,
  • Shaw's backbone connecting one city to the next city, e.g., Winnipeg to Toronto,
  • the "packet interchange" site, where all the networks "cross-over" (Shaw and Telus and Bell and Rogers and Canarie would each run fibre-optic cable into a router at that site,
  • if the remote server is connected to the Internet via Telus Business, it could be some of Telus' infrastructure that might have a problem.

Without the outputs from "traceroute" that I have repeatedly requested from you, I cannot tell where the "bottle-neck" is that causes your end-to-end "slowness".

Yes I understand about the coaxial cable.  This is not how my house is.

There is a black coaxial cable that comes in a hole in my wall, and I think it goes outside.  I cannot just unscrew it and install a new one because of this.  It is literally a hole in my wall, and then I assume it goes outside.

Ok,

I have been working on this for so long my brain is becoming fried.  Worked on it all day, Shaw has no solutions.

I will try to do the tracerout thing for you if you can explain it a bit better to me.  Please explain what to do a bit better because I have never used that command before.

When I used one of them, I just saw a wall of IP addresses, without any evidence as to where they are from.  I didn't know what to do with that or how to identity whats what.  Or how that even helps...

Because I can watch streams on Twitch.tv  .... thats not the same as uploading my stream to Twitch.tv.  I download just fine, even though the download is slower than it should be its not a problem like the upload.

mdk, is there any way we could talk somewhere that isn't on the forums if you aren't busy?  It would be much easier to communicate, but I appreciate the help either way.
