I was experiencing the same scenario, with a new HP laptop as well.

It turned out that whenever the HP laptop connected to the 5G network through the Bluecurve, that the modem would become unstable and shut down.

When the same HP laptop utilizes the 2.4G network, we have had no issues what-so-ever.

Our phones run on the 5G network, and cause no issues with the Bluecurve modem.

so I beleive it has to do with the HP laptop only!!!!

@bayley -- if you open the Windows "Device Manager", and expand the "Network" section, exactly what description do you see for the WiFi adapter?

Hi: It is a Realtek RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCle Adapter

I also have setup the Bluecurve with sepertate names for the 2.4G & 5G networks, to allow me to select the 2.4G network for the laptops and the 5G network for everything else.

Could be the culprit!!!

I've not had any issues staying on the 2.4G network, as we're not gamers, so seems to be a good work-round.

Sorry for not reading all the posts up to now. Is band steering disabled?

Pretty simple to do, just change the SSID names to be different from each other: https://support.shaw.ca/t5/internet-articles/bluecurve-gateway-guide/ta-p/5114#name

Also, if one device is causing the modem to reboot, that is really odd. Judging by some of the other comments, I wonder if it is an issue with the realtek wireless card.

Maybe you can set a static IP for your laptop and see if that helps?

Really?

There should be no difference in speed of the data-transfer, between the two frequency-bands, since the "hardware" at both ends is identical. If your hybrid vehicle is operating on electric power on a trip to the grocery store, versus burning gasoline, you still will get to grocery store in the same time.

If you run the Shaw SpeedTest while connected to the 2.4 Ghz network, what is reported, versus what are you paying Shaw to get?

A Shaw tech came to fix slow issues and digitizations/pixelations on our BlueCurve network. He told me about this and to be wary until they find a fix.
