Online Gaming

I recently moved from the city into a smaller area... My internet in the city was amazing, using Technicolor Blue Curve modem, at 600. Since I moved to the new house, I got Gig internet I can no longer play online games weather it be on PC, or on any console. Lag Spikes and constant disconnection. Even Videos are now buffering. I have had the tech here 3 different times... 4 different modems, and all wires from the outside pole to the house all bran new. I been dealing with this for over 4 weeks now, and no one can figure this issue out. Please help, as this is my only ISP in area that had cable. I am a streamer / gamer and rely on this for my part time job. !!

@DBrogue the signal to your modem indeed looks solid with no errors showing up. Are you noticing only issues during gaming/streaming or are videos from Youtube buffering as well? Can you run some traceroutes to the streaming servers you connect to? Have you made any changes to your stream settings? Also, does this happen over WiFi or a direct ethernet connection to the BlueCurve modem?

Well its been a while... everything in house all the way out to the Pole has been replaced... 4th modem now, and still having the same issues. I can watch Youtube, or Netflix, Prime video, and it runs fine.... as soon as i try playing any online video the pings shoots so high that it disconnects me from game, and internet... I cant even bring up web pages, until I reset my modem. Every time I play games online... Blue Curve shuts me down. Tracer Routes look great to google and other Non gaming websites..... Every tracer route done to gaming sites... Battlenet.com, Steam.com, Xbox live.com.... I get time outs. Again this issue only happens when I play online games, wired directly, no splitters, to PC or Console..... In the city as I mentioned worked amazing. I am starting to wonder if Shaw high speed, Gig internet even works in this area.... Please help... I am desperate to figure this out.... If Telus ran highspeed here i would def switch.... Even the Telus Smart Hub works perfect here... just the Shaw doesn't. However I am committed to try and figure this out. Do I really need a Blue Curve modem or can i try using 3rd Party modems?

@DBrogue -- I recently moved from the city into a smaller area... My internet in the city was amazing, using Technicolor Blue Curve modem, at 600.

From what city? To what area?

Other people in this forum have noted good networking while in Edmonton, but poorer performance in the nearby towns (Lloydminster and Cold Lake), because the Shaw Internet cables from Edmonton service such a large area, especially to the north (High Prairie), and east.

> Every traceroute done to gaming sites... Battlenet.com, Steam.com, Xbox live.com.... I get time outs.

Some routers have been programmed to "discard" the traceroute packets:

So, any "time out" is not a failure to carry the traffic.

Please show us the traceroutes that you have done.

> Do I really need a Blue Curve modem or can i try using 3rd Party modems?

Shaw does not support 3rd-party modems.

Given that you have repeatedly switched modems, and have newly-installed runs of cable, I doubt that the cable-modem (Hitron or BlueCurve) is the source of your problem.  The comment from @shaw-tony seems to confirm that.

Ditto. Even upgraded to a package 3x the speed of my existing line with zero improvement. At this point, I'm seriously considering switching.

Dear OP,

Your issue lies in how your NIC is handling IPv4. Recommend resetting your NIC to default values and attempting again. If that does not work seek out other areas of network control type of configurations to default IPv4 handling.
