Set up VPN router

Not applicable

I have the advanced Arris XB6 modem and I was wondering if I could directly set up a VPN in the router settings, so that I don't have to turn on my VPN each time.

Better to use your own router with actual decent firmware (and hardware) in it.

Nope..  Shaw disabled us from using the built in VPN functions, same with the Hitron.  Have to setup your own and use port forwarding or bridging.

Can you just replace their router with your own ar do you have to somehow connect the two. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I don't know much about vpn and routers. Just recently got a vpn.

Thanks

Depending on model of modem you have you may either be able to have it in bridge mode which disables all router functionality, and if not, then just plug in your router to it and connect everything else through your router, and set the IP of your router in the DMZ on the modem.
