Shaw Open captive portal in a redirect loop

Mcksimpson

As if it’s not bad enough that Rogers monopolized our internet service, the captive portal redirect for Shaw Open is now in an infinite redirect loop. When you fetch https://wifisignon.shaw.ca/FREEWIFI/landing.html, you get a 302 Moved Temporarily and the Location header points at the same URL. Hence your web browser shows an error like “TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS”.

To the one remaining person maintaining Shaw, can you please fix this?

@tdehnke -- I guess that trying Microsoft Edge will show the same error-message from Shaw's "back-end" servers.

Also, trying a different Access Point (a few blocks away) is also likely to show the same error-message.

Contact Shaw Support: 1-888-472-2222 and get support directly from them.

Shaw support is entirely unhelpful. They actually suggested that my account does not give me access to Shaw Go WiFi and that this is the reason for the infinite redirect loop. This is sheer insanity.

I just got off a 40 minute call with their support,  they had me try that page too, it didn't work either.

After 40 minutes there was no resolution.

   - They said there is no Wifi Go where I am app - yet it's here
   - They said my account has zero devices added to it, but I've used the service for years and know there are 9 devices on it
   - They then said that there are 9 devices, but my laptop is not one of them (it is and has been for a long time) - and that I'd have to go home to register the device
   - The didn't know why I'd have to do that, when the portal has a login option for devices not registered yet

They don't really seem to know what is going on at all.

40 minute waste of time, trying to tell them they have a problem, that there are messages about it here on the forum.

Nope. It produces an error as well. I should note, I am a Shaw Business customer and have been a customer for 30 years. This problem only started happening after the Rogers merger. At what point do I contact the CRTC?

@Mcksimpson

You can connect to my.shaw.ca or use the My Shaw app to see which devices are registered to your account and how many you are allowed and have used. Have you tried other browsers? Only iOS devices can be set up at home, Android and laptops need to be connected at a Rogers hotspot. Have you been talking to Business or residential support?

CRTC doesn’t take quality of service complaints, that would be the CCTS.

So Shaw/Rogers support said I had to register my laptop at home first to be able use the service.  Logged into my account here, the connect button says you have to go connect to a Rogers Wifi hub (shaw go) wifi point to register.   So there own support doesn't even seem to know how the system works.
