Was at a new cafe in Abbotsford yesterday for the first time, ran into the same issues.
Are you on Mac/Apple? I'm starting to wonder if the privacy items Apple has added are breaking the Rogers auth system, which seems to be heavily tied to device MAC ID's.
Too bad no one from Rogers/Shaw Support reads these groups it seems.
Yes, I am seeing this issue on Apple devices. I don't use the private browsing functionality on my Mac, but I do use it on my iPhone. Come to think of it, I don't think I have tried to authenticate with Shaw Go using my MacBook - only the iPhone. And the iPhone definitely is using private browsing by default. I will try disabling private browsing to see whether that helps.
I have a degree in computer engineering and I have spent 25 years in the industry building internet infrastructure. I previously owned and sold a WiFi hotspot company. The Shaw app is unhelpful and doesn’t solve the problem. I believe Apple’s private browsing might be the cause but I will test it out at the next opportunity.
@Mcksimpson -- I just pulled an iMac (PowerMac G5, manufactured in 2010) out of my storage, where it has been gathering dust since 2015, and easily connected it to my home cable-modem (XB7).
YMMV
The issue isn't with home hardware, this is the Wifi hotspots you see in restaurants, cafes etc that have names like: Rogers Wifi, Shaw Go
@tdehnke -- and connecting an Apple device to WiFi is not the issue, unlike what has been written here.
@Mcksimpson @tdehnke I am able to connect to Rogers hotspots with my iPhone and private browsing on.
