Shredding empty space

McAfee used to offer the ability to shred empty space on a drive, which was a great way to ensure that files that were deleted long ago were completely unrecoverable.  Does that functionality still exist?

Thanks.

Their Shredder program is still listed on their web-site. It seems to overwrite files, rather than to overwrite all "free" disk-space.

Note that using anything like Shredder on a SSD (Solid State Device) is not recommended, due to how the SSD stores data.
