@TomV2 -- I was able to turn the news on in the last few minutes and rewind it to the start,
The Shaw TV box never is completely "off".
So, if you were tuned to that news channel when you powered-off your TV, the Shaw box will continue to record that news channel, to enable the REW/PLAY/FF functions, after you power-on your TV. However, after a long time (e.g., watch news channel, power-off the TV, sleep 8 hours, power-on the TV), the "buffering" will have stopped, and you won't be able to REW/PLAY/FF at all, since the buffer is empty. A few minutes later, there will be content in the buffer, to allow you to PAUSE/REW/PLAY and skip each 30 seconds of commercials.
This is happening to me as well. My other 4 boxes work fine and this one did too....until it didn't. Did you get yours working properly?

What are the 5 boxes that you are using? Manufacturer? Model number?
Have any of them been "retired" by Shaw?
Some TV boxes have an internal disk-drive that is used to "buffer" the incoming content, so that "rewind", and "pause" will work, within that "buffer". If the disk-drive has failed, or is 100% full, then REW/PAUSE will not work. Some of the older TV boxes had NO internal disk-drive.
