ETA on closed captioning fix?

Is there any ETA on when closed captioning will be fixed?  I was told 9 months ago that you were working on it, but it's still not fixed.

Hey andy1,

Thank you for reaching out! I am sorry for the delay in response. The forums aren't monitored as closely as our other support channels. I haven't heard of any current reports of issues regarding closed captions. If you are still having troubles, your best bet is to touch base with a technical support member to investigate and fix the issue.

Cheers,

Hi shaw-tony,

After doing a quick search, I found several posts about this going back to August of last year.  One of which you had even replied to.

https://community.shaw.ca/thread/36881
https://community.shaw.ca/thread/36169
https://community.shaw.ca/thread/37340

In the January post, shaw-phil said "It appears that this is currently a known challenge.  We are working to have this resolved in a future update.  No ETA at this time."

andy1 Thank you for clarifying the specifics. Looks like it is an intended feature to have the closed captions available when the guide is up. I understand it does block some information but it is an overlay accessibility feature. I would recommend enabling them when you need them, then disabling them when you don't with the voice command.

Hi shaw-tony,

So it is an intended feature to have the guide and menu unusable while closed captioning is on?  And if it is an intended feature, why did shaw-phil say "It appears that this is currently a known challenge.  We are working to have this resolved in a future update."?  Why would an intended feature need to be resolved.

And your recommendation to enable them when needed and disabling them when I don't with the voice command won't work for me.  At night when my girlfriend is sleeping I put the TV on mute and turn on the closed captioning to avoid waking her.  Talking into the remote kinda defeats the purpose.

andy1 apologies on any confusion that may have caused. That statement was in error and we have archived the content. I understand in your specific situation the voice command may not be the best to disable closed captions. You can always manually disable them with the steps here. I appreciate your feedback and understanding.

Hi shaw-tony,

So your suggestion is to go through that long process before and after every time I want to use the guide or menu?  And how am I supposed to do that when the closed captioning covers the menu so you can't see what you're doing?

There is also a shortcut you can use while watching a program or viewing the menu to toggle Closed Captions on and off. To do that you can press the "down" button, then scroll left over to CC and hit "ok" once it's highlighted.

Thanks shaw-tamara, that is much easier.  But I still don't understand why you don't just fix the problem,  you've known about it for well over a year now.  But then I guess it's like the mobile app for remote recording, all we ever hear about that is that you're working on it and there is no ETA for that either.
