@smithav -- But why would a phisher spoof an address to show that an email, which is supposed to be coming from Shaw, is coming from Telus?
Two explanations quickly come to mind:
1. incompetence by the spammer;
2. There's a sucker born every minute is a phrase closely associated with P. T. Barnum, an American showman of the mid-19th century, although there is no evidence that he actually said it. Early examples of its use are found among gamblers and confidence tricksters. If the spammer does not "hook" you, there probably is somebody (a grandparent?) that can be "phished".
Just got one of these today and tried to report it, both e-mails customer support gave me did not work.
@dpartridge Did you try internet.abuse@sjrb.ca
@dpartridge -- see: https://support.shaw.ca/t5/internet-articles/how-to-report-email-spam-by-sending-email-headers/ta-p/...
which states:
Reporting spam using 3rd party email apps
If you would prefer to report spam [to] Shaw through your 3rd party email app:
Forward the spam email to reportspam@shaw.ca
Include the spam's email headers into the body of your email.
Viewing email headers will vary for each 3rd party email app, though generally found in settings or properties.
Did E-mail to the above ID "bounce" back to you?
Yes I did, came back undeliverable. Everything it says to do comes back undeliverable.
Came back undeliverable.
@dpartridge Odd, I emailed internet.abuse@sjrb.ca and it didn’t bounce back.
@rstra -- I emailed internet.abuse@sjrb.ca and it didn’t bounce back
Shaw's mail-servers keep trying, for 72 hours, to try to deliver each E-mail message, before declaring a message "undeliverable", and reporting back to you. This is a feature of all mail-servers, to deal with short-term outages. Obviously, any E-mail to your colleagues in New Orleans will soon be "returned", because Hurricane Ida has destroyed the electric grid in that area.
So, wait the remainder of the 72 hours, to receive the "your message could not be delivered for 72 hours" message.
Hi there! Are you still having trouble forwarding to reportspam@shaw.ca? I've tried testing it myself and have asked other teams to investigate whether we're having any issues.
One more thing - could try composing a new email and sending it to reportspam@shaw.ca? If that works it could help us discover the problem.
