Shaw Gateway remote backlight

Can the backlight for the Gateway XG1 remote be toggled off? I notice it is sucking up a lot of battery - needing to replace batteries every 1 to 1.5 years. The remote batteries for all my other equipment (with no backlight) lasts 5+ years.

Thank you for reaching out! I am sorry for the delay in response. The forums aren't monitored as closely as our other support channels. Unfortunately, there is no option to toggle off the remote backlight. I will recommend higher capacity batteries to ensure longevity.
