Streaming pixelation

This is actually Shaw streaming, but couldn't find Shaw streaming...

I am a senior and do not have any TV packages. I stream all my TV and movies on my Amazon Firestick. Around 10AM this morning, CityTV went all pixelated and has been ever since. This is the only channel or app that does this. Is there a problem with your streaming service? According to Shaw, there is no problem on their end and my end is okay. I have tried restarting my Firestick and router, but no difference. I even went as far as to reset my Firestick to factory settings, no difference.

I have emailed CityTV about this, just waiting for and if they reply

Please help

@wynford if your internet is solid, then this is a FireTV or CityTV problem.

It's a CityTV problem... got an email reply...

QUOTE: At this time we are no longer delivering programming to Shaw, now that our content is available via other apps on the Ignite box, (e.g. the new Citytv+ app that launched Jan 1st). This would probably explain what you have started to experience when trying to access our programming via a Firestick. :END QUOTE.

Talk about scams... you now have to have a TV package to get CityTV, I downloaded their app and you seem to have to have a TV package to get CityTV  and lot of other streaming services now... I guess they're losing a lot of money to streaming.

@wynford It seems like you were streaming Citytv through pirated IPTV on your Firestick. If that’s the case, complaining about it not working is like being upset that a stolen phone isn’t functioning properly.

And you expect Shaw to just give their services away? You can subscribe to basic cable TV for $25 a month plus PVR rental. What actually feels like a scam is charging for the PVR on what’s essentially a government-mandated service.

I heard of IPTV, but have no idea what it is and how would Firestick have it.

The pixelation lasted until I went to bed at 10PM last night, probably longer, this morning, I checked CityTV. and everything is normal. That email reply I got must have been a lie... it must have been a technical issue at their end and they didn't want to admit it.

I can watch CityTV live, but cannot stream shows from yesterday and older without a TV package.

This is what it was like yesterday... during lets make a deal

IP is "Internet Protocol".

Anything connected to your cable-modem (notebook, iPhone, desktop) communicates via IP.

This includes how your FireStick communicates.

The FireStick connects to some site on the Internet that receives TV signals, and pushes that audio/video, over the Internet, into your cable-modem, and out to your FireStick, all using IP.

Now, if there were a problem at that site when receiving CityTV, then you get what you saw, namely pixelization effects. If there is no problem at that site when receiving other TV audio/video feeds, then your view of those channels would be normal.  If those other channels are normal, then there is nothing "speed-wise" that is a bottle-neck between that site and your FireStick.

That reminds me of a single-panel cartoon, from many years go.

Two buzzards are perched on a tree-branch, out in a desert.

To the other, one says patience, my Beep. I am going to kill something

This reflects that those birds typically wait until they find a dead animal.

Yes, they also hover in a circle, high in the sky, above a dead animal.

So, having a little patience, and maybe waiting until other customers have reported the same issue, before you did. So, submitted your report could have been a "me, too" message to the provider.

Yep... the problem had to have on their end, everything is just fine on CityTV now.

I guess other people must have complained as well.

I jumped the gun too fast.
