One pauses and records just like the other? I suspect that you have not used the Shaw Gateway system because if you had you would know that isn't true.

On the Gateway system you could press the red rec button and whatever is on at the time will start recording immediately.  On the Ignite system there is also a red record button. But when you press it a screen pops up and asks you if you just want to record this episode or all episodes. So you have to click just this episode. After you select that a new screen pops up and you have to press Confirm or Cancel. After that a recording is set pop up appears to block more of the screen. After a few seconds it disappears.  Though so there is no way that the Ignite system can match the recording capability of Gateway.

As far as pausing is concerned with the Gateway system. You could pause the movie or ball game by pressing the pause button just before you switch channels, then go to the other channel and watch whatever it is you want to watch until the commercial comes on. Then hit pause in that channel, switch back to the original channel and the game or movie will pick up at the point where you paused it. In the Ignite system, even if you have gone through the steps to set the channel that you were watching to record, if you press pause and then switch to another Channel to watch a different program for a while and then switch back, your original program will not pick up where the pause happened. If you want to get back to that point in the program you have to rewind and try to guess where you paused before changing channels. There is no comparison between the two systems, absolutely no comparison.

Here is a very simple one for you. Every remote that I have had on a tv, vcr, pvr, cable box, or any other TV control remote there has been a Go Back button or Return to Previous channel. You know the button I mean. Click it and it goes back to the last Channel you were looking at. On the ignite system when you click the go back button a screen pops up and there are nine thumbnails which represent the last 9 channels that you have visited. So instead of one click to go back now you have to click twice. I know there is surely someone on here who will say so what you only have to click one more time. True, but why make it more complicated than it needs to be. Someone else will probably save yeah but you can go back to something you were watching yesterday, that's handy. It would be if you could actually see what it was that you were watching but what you actually see is just a thumbnail of TSN 5 for example. That means nothing.

I resisted changing to the new system 4 years ago because I had heard that the pause and record system was terrible on this ignite crap, but this time they gave me an ultimatum so I was forced to switch to the ignite boxes and channel guide. To be honest it is worse than I had heard.

I suspect that you were referring to the availability of Plex in your post, and not Flex. If I am mistaken I apologize. For you or anyone expecting Plex to work within the ignite system sadly it will not be able to access your Plex Media server along with your personal media. If you do log in to the Plex app you will get a message saying something like are you looking for your personal media? Don't worry, it hasn't been abducted! It's safe and sound on your Plex Media server, but our Rogers ignite app doesn't support personal media access. Currently you do not have access to the following from this app and then it will point out where your media server is.

So the Plex app is on there but Rogers won't let you watch any of your own media, weather licensed or not.

@NathanielNathan  I had the gateway when it released until 2017 and switched. Both do 30 second skip or FF, there is no difference. I never did that channel pausing and bouncing thing, never found a need since I don’t watch live TV, except for news.

Nothing was forced on you, you can switch to a different provider.

@rstra Your comment about buffer recent channels and Ignite cloud recording cannot do the same thing.  That is my point.   It is cloud based, so when viewing a program, should be easy to allow us to go back to beginning of program to watch whole thing.  I am even ok that I can't switch away so I have to watch commercials and I can't fast forward.  But, should be easy to allow us to go back to beginning of program to watch whole show.  Disappointed with that functionality.   But... 2 things that I like are it shows you the last 7 or 8 channels you were on when you pick the back button, nice feature as I don't watch many more channels than that.   And the On Demand feature is nice, found some shows that I missed that I was able to go back and watch.

@ksbigfoot  Because it is cloud based, you can only go back to the beginning if you remained on the channel since the start of the show, the drawback of not have tuners and local storage. Many programs have a restart option if it is available on demand.

I do have a wifi signal strength issue where out TV is mounted in the bedroom (1-2 bars of signal strength). Shaw says signal strength is adequate but we keep losing audio feed.
. yes, I could move mounted TV to another location in room and get better audio but it is mounted and worked fine for past 20+ years in that location with coax connection.

I have even tried pod but signal strength issue is still 1-2 bars and audio drops off often requiring either a power on/off or a reset of xi6t tv box .

I guess sign of the times. Shaw tech who visited said I could buy & put in my own mesh network … I miss the days of coax connection which is right there beside the bedroom TV. Oh well… progress and simplification for Rogers/Shaw. …

TV is fine and has been up until switch to Ignite TV from Shaw TV Gateway.

@tc10  One of my TVs was dropping out, so I got a range extender and put it between the TV and router. That solved the problem.

They hit me with extra 7 bucks for the 2nd box, I called them and asked why, they said they’d told me about the charge on previous bills I said I was under a 2 year contract that was 1 year into it, anyway they were having none of it, so I cancelled the 2nd box, sent it back, bought 2 Amazon fire tv sticks ( that seems to be the only hardware device you can download the ignite app to).

@tc10 , any chance you can get a hold of Rogers/Shaw and get them to remotely check that tv box, maybe the box itself is the problem. Seems like you have tried the recommended steps and you say you have a good signal coming out from the pod, so maybe the box itself has issues.  Sorry not much help otherwise.  P.S. I just read in your earlier post that even with the pod you only get 1-2 bars strength, that is not strong enough to maintain a consistent signal with the box at 1-2 bars you are experiencing drop offs that are just long enough for the box to lose the signal. Not sure now if calling Rogers/Shaw would help, but I guess it wouldn't do any harm.
