Cancel new agreement

I signed up for a new 2 year term agreement yesterday, October 20, 2021.  It was not made clear to me that the agreement would take effect before expiry of my current 2 year contract.  I would like to cancel the new contract.  In the event I decide to continue with Shaw, I would like any new contract term to begin after my current (less expensive) contract ends.

I will rely on this message as notice of cancellation within 4 days, as allowed under the terms of the new services agreement.

Hey @SimonGS! I am sorry that the original agent did not reconfirm with you on the date that you wanted your new plan to start. Naturally, any plan that is offered where no change in the equipment is needed begins the day of, unless specified by the customer. To clarify, there are no additional fees in starting a new plan before your old plan expires. Your next invoice may just reflect the change in rate, more info about that can be found here: Understanding partial charges

Back in mid-February 2021, Shaw called me to get me to sign me up for another 2-year contract, even though my current 2-year contract was expiring on June 2, 2021. I signed-up. Of course, they said "if you wait until June to renew, the price could be higher".

The new contract started immediately, and the monthly price was 4% higher than my current price. OK, 2% increase per year is not a "killer". I wish that gasoline and house-prices would only increase 2% per year.

When I mentioned the immediate price-increase to the Shaw Agent, they issued me a credit, so that my slightly-higher payments for March & April & May were offset by the credit.  Basically, they honoured the "old" price until the original expiry-date.  That worked for me.   🙂

Yes I had something like that happening to me. Lady call to renew my shaw and it wasn't due until Aug which was 4 months away. She said it was 5.00 more than I was paying and I thought it was a good deal so I said yes. Turns out that didn't include the phone on my first bill. So now I'm paying 20.00 more a month. I chatted customer service and there help that is that period! So call the next morning to find out it was the home phone that wasn't on the agreement but they charged me for it. If it wasn't part of that agreement then why is there a charge for the phone. I didn't agree to a phone then? But I really thought I did. Supposedly then pulled up my conversation and decide that they were right and I was wrong. I asked for a copy of the conversation and said they would not give it to me and om the site the agreements says that I couldn't get a copy. So that is where we stand now. They are Judge and jury and they don't have to show me the conversation that they said led to their decision. Oh I didn't mention that my Chat I had the guy there more or less accused me of altering the agreement. He say "how do I know to didn't change it" referring to the numbers pages I sent to show the prices. I said I would happily stick to the agreement if I didn't say something like that is my total bill right? All they had to was show me. I can't see how that could be legal. No matter I didn't think shaw was like this to it's long time customers. And to think I was going to change my Aunts from Telus to Shaw. Now if anything it will be the other way around.

I have a bad taste in my mouth and I don't like it!!

I believe that the only reason Shaw is calling people early to renew is to break the agreement and raise their rates sooner. They raised my rates last time I renewed, but I asked for a credit for the difference on the remaining months or I wouldn’t renew. The offer I have from them right now is actually the same, I just haven’t signed yet. 

Are you able to cancel the phone? Or just threaten, they will probably drop it down to $10.

I tried these people would not budge. All I know is that Shaw has always been reasonable but these people and I'm not sure if they are in this country even. I was hoping to get someone that English was their first language. I tried and because I already got my first bill they said it was too late to cancel. It just makes me mad that a company I have dealt with for so many years treats me like this. It's not like I am one of those you have to chase to beg to pay the bill. If I cancel I'm have to give them 20.00 a month ( I think it around 20) for the remainder of the agreement which is 23 months now. I'm thinking for getting rid of the phone but I not sure, I kind o like having a home phone. I would like to talk to someone. But they would not let me talk to anyone above the manager. I would really like to hear my conversation I had. I am very sure I mention "and that is for everything I have now." Hey I could have mistakenly said OK because I was thinking of something else ( I have a lot on my plate right now) but without hearing the whole conversation, I can't say I am totally in the wrong. All I know is that it's shame Shaw has to be this way. Funny I wasn't going to answer the phone thinking it's a telemarketer. Now I really wished I didn't. I always talk good about this company and how they treat their customer. Not any more. I'll wait when it's less to buy out my agreement, I will and leave.
