With Bill c10 starting soon, You will not be able to run dns services router side,
Big brother needs to know all you do and look at and I understand this firmware is likely turned off on the old Hitrons and motorola;s as well.
Welcome to the NWO
@siona -- You will not be able to run dns services router side,
Just configure your computer to always use your choice of DNS-servers, e.g., 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, i.e., to "ignore" the IP-addresses of the DNS-servers that are returned to your computer in response to each DHCP-request sent from your "client" computer to the Shaw cable-modem "server".
Alphabet/Google would certainly have a "hissy-fit" if DNS-requests coming across the Shaw backbone were firewalled from reaching their 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS-servers, or if responses from their DNS-servers were blocked from being returned to your computer.
"Google would have a hissy fit if they were blocked..." - Dude, They already do business with China....
That's not what bill c-10 does.
@siona -- "manual" DNS settings are still enabled on my Hitron:
HITRON -> Basic Settings -> DNS Settings -> Configure your DNS settings
DNS Obtain: [Auto] [Manual]
and there is a field to enter the IP-address(es) of DNS-server(s).
If you don't understand what you're doing then perhaps you shouldn't be doing it. Ignorance is not an excuse.
This thread is talking about the Bluecurve modem, not the Hitron.

Not sure if this will help anyone - but I changed the DNS inside of the Adapter's IPv4 settings (Win 7) and it worked.
