I have Win 7 and Thunderbird for my email client. My last successfully sent email was 26Oct21. Ever since,I cannot send, but I can receive normally. I have tried everything under the sun,but nothing works. Outgoing server is set up according to Shaw recommendations. I don't know what to do next. I hate paying for things, but it looks like I will have to lug my tower into the computer repair shop.

I had the same problem with my .shaw Imap email account on my iPhone 12, so added another outgoing mail server and that did the trick. Here are the steps:

Settings>Mail>Accounts>Shaw>Account (xxx@shaw.ca)  >Outgoing Mail Server>

The primary server now will show as "mail.shaw.ca" but below it is "other SMTP servers" and I clicked on "shawmail"

Shawmail - turn this server on

Outgoing mail server: shawmail

Username: your email address without the "shaw.ca" at the end

Password: enter your password - this is the part that wasn't set up and made all the difference

Use SSL - on

Authentication - Password

Server port 587

Turning on the password for this secondary outgoing mail server did the trick for me. I am going to go through the rest of the outgoing mail servers and enter my email password as well, because "if Mail is unsuccessful using the primary server, it will try the other SMTP servers in succession." Hope this helps!!

@Rese

I use theses settings for all of our iOS devices, not sure why it wouldn’t work for you.

Outgoing mail server: mail.shaw.ca
Username: your email address without the "@shaw.ca" at the end
Password: xxxxxxxxx
Use SSL - on
Authentication - Password
Server port 587

When I originally set up imap, I had to choose a more secure password.

I didn’t know that shawmail was still active. Note, that server will not work outside of the Shaw network.

@rstra -- the command-line NSLOOKUP utility gives the results:

> mail.shaw.ca
Name: shawmail.glb.shawcable.net
Addresses: 64.59.128.135
64.59.136.142
Aliases: mail.shaw.ca

> smtp.shaw.ca
Name: shawmail.glb.shawcable.net
Addresses: 64.59.136.142
64.59.128.135
Aliases: smtp.shaw.ca

Thus, both "mail" and "smtp" are aliases for "shawmail", and resolve to the same pair of IP-addresses.

So, use either "mail" or "smtp".

The result of your computer sending a DHCP-query request provides the "shaw.ca" suffix, when your computer is connected to the Shaw network. If you connect to the TELUS network, you get:

Name: mail.telus.net
Address: 207.167.198.23

> smtp.telus.net
Name: smtp.telus.net
Address: 207.167.198.18

because the Telus DHCP-server provides the "telus.net" suffix.
