I feel like the XB7 must actually have a fan. I just received my gateway in October and it's been silent until last night when I heard a weird noise in the middle of the night. Went over to the modem and found it was coming from there and I have the XB7. Definitely sounded like a fan whirring and there was noticeable air being propelled from the top of it. I unplugged it for a while and when I plugged it back in it was silent again. Sure hope this event was an anomaly and it won't happen again.
Same thing happened with me I doubt they send your blue curve to me
How to do you turn it off.Do you have to unplug the power cord.I live in a small place and the dam thing keeps me up at night.
@Daviddws pulling the power would be the only way to shut off the modem. I would suggest contacting Shaw and getting them to send you an XB7, they don’t have a fan.
@Daviddws -- I can’t move it, because the cables are too short
Find a local Salvation Army (or similar) thrift-store, or a Dollarama store, and buy longer cables -- very inexpensive.
@MS34 -- yes, the XB6 cable-modem can be very noisy. Upgrade to the XB7 or XB8, which are much quieter, even if that means telling a lie to Shaw Support -- "my cable-modem is dead, after it emitted some smoke". Of course, power-off it, before telephoning Shaw with your mobile phone. 🙂
