@lpowers -- I don't have an ethernet connection on my laptop,
There do exist Ethernet adapters that connect to a USB port on your computer, for under $20 CAD.
I don't really understand why it would make a difference when I already have HP's latest update from their website?
Hmm, this gives me hope! Where did you get your USB wifi device?

Pick the web-site of any of the "big-box" consumer electronic stores, such as BestBuy, or shop via Amazon.
There are USB-to-Ethernet and USB-to-WiFi adapters available for purchase.
I ordered a USB wifi device and disabled the wifi on my laptop and problem solved. No more internet issues!
Hi, I have the same problem too. I just bought a HP laptop and everytime I turn the laptop on, my whole house internet for disconnected. How do I fix this problem. Please share.
@alex918 The solution is in the replies below.
It tried everything and nothing worked. After so much frustration, bought a wifi dongle off Amazon. That works, however is VERY inconvenient since the laptop only has two USB ports. Not very impressed
Determin if it is your wifi. If you plug your network cable into it and also drops and has poor speed test, that means the signal maybe too strong coming to your house. You may need a dampener which the shaw person will determine.
If it is only happening on your wifi, your nic card on the laptop needs to be replaced. This is about 50 bucks. There are video on how to replace them
