My XB6 "homepage" crashes every week or so.
It is once again not responding to web browser connections or pings.
The modem part of it continuous to work fine. (as far as I can see)
I have it set at 10.0.0.1 in bridge mode. It will work for a week or so, upon which I have to either leave it like that, or reboot the cable modem so it comes back for another week.
It's not an IP conflict because my DHCP server is set to start at 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200 and default gateway set static to 192.168.1.1 with a netmask of /24 255.255.255.0
There is no other DHCP server or DHCP relay on my network and all my devices receives their IP's from the one DHCP server.
I don't see this being a network issue because the cable modem is the only device on the WAN side.
It is a modem issue.. Another sh*tty modem offering from Shaw... *still waiting for a decent modem to be offered or Shaw to let us use our own modem from the list they have already approved* - Purely political, not a technical issue...
Hey vanadiel,
Thank you for reaching out! I haven't heard of any reports of the XB6 UI crashing. When you try to access the admin page, are you using "remote management" similar to the image below or do you unplug the ethernet cord from your router and plug it into your PC/access it via WiFi? We do recommend accessing the UI through remote management so there are no conflicts.
Cheers,
Tony | Community Mod.
I access it by using 10.0.0.1 using a web browser.
It works for about a week or so, than is becomes unreachable and does not respond to pings either.
Remote management would mean management from outside the network, and I am not keen on opening that up because there's nothing to manage.
I have the router in bridge mode, with all the functions disabled. I just wanted to use it now and then to check the modem logs and check signals levels.
vanadiel odd, as it should still be working as expected. Just to make sure you are accessing the 10.0.0.1 using a web browser when connected via ethernet through your 3rd party router? Is the page unreachable via both ethernet and WiFi devices after 1 week?
If the issue is persisting, I'd recommend a full factory reset then setting the modem in bridge mode once again just in case there are some settings that are causing the UI to crash.
I use an Ethernet connection, and the web page is bookmarked.
I also tried manually at 10.0.0.1, and I also tried to ping 10.0.0.1. A ping to that address times out.
I know a reset fixes it for another week or so, that is what I have done before on a few occasions. It's time consuming so I now just leave it like that.
I am going to reset it tonight, just for you. I want to see if there is an option for remote management in bridge mode because I remember most of the configuration options are grayed out when in bridge mode.
I just rebooted it, and as I suspected the remote management function is not available when in bridge mode.
The other questions is, how does it know to get to 10.0.0.1?
I don't see it in the routing table anywhere and it's not a configurable option in the modem's settings when in bridge mode.
Tracing route to 10.0.0.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.0.0.1

Hi vanadiel
I just want to make sure we are on the same page about the steps you are taking. Are you doing a full factory reset as per the link Tony provided, or just power cycling the modem? If you're just unplugging it to reset it, please try the factory reset option. If you are unable to access the admin page to do a factory reset, you should be able to accomplish this by holding down the reset button on the back of the modem for about ten seconds or so. Once that's done, you will need to reconfigure the settings. https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-12071 has some more information of the steps needed after a factory reset.
Well, this is the thing. It does not reset to factory defaults when using the reset button.
I unplugged power to the modem, Pressed and held the reset button with a fine instrument for 20 seconds, plugged power back in and waited for it to reboot.
When it was finished, it was still in bridge mode and it used the same admin login as before.
That's not supposed to be like that, and I know for a fact I had the reset button pressed because you can feel it click when you press it.
I am going to try the factory restore from the settings menu and will let you know how that went.
Factory reset worked. Put it back in bridge mode. We will see if the homepage stays accessible or not.
