I recently renewed my 2-year value plan with Shaw/Rogers and was told they would have to replace my old Cisco DPC825 modem with a newer Ignite WiFi Gateway (Gen 2 / XB7) modem. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to access the settings because I do not own a smart phone or mobile device that I can use to run the Ignite HomeConnect app. According to the support article Getting Started With the Ignite HomeConnect App this app is supposed to be compatible with "iOS 15 or later and Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later" but when I tried to download the app from the Apple Store to my 7th gen iPod Touch (iOS v15.8.3, rel. 29-Jul-2024) the installation failed with a warning that this app requires iOS 16 or later.
I logged in to my Shaw/Rogers account to see if I could manage my Ignite settings there (no luck) and searched the Microsoft Store for a Windows-compatible Ignite HomeConnect app (again no luck). Is there something I've overlooked, because I find it incomprehensible that I would be unable to configure my router from my Windows computer. It was easy to access the settings for my previous Cisco DPC825 router - all I had to do was log in to 192.168.0.1 from my browser with a username and password provided by Shaw.
When I renewed my 2-year value plan I told the service rep I did not own a mobile phone (and politely declined their offer to add a mobile phone plan to my services) and was never warned that I would be unable to configure the new router they were sending me. The setup guide that came with the Ignite modem stated:
"You can use the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) app to set the same network name and password you use today to keep your current devices connected without interruption and save time."
Without access to my Ignite modem settings, that meant I had to manually enter the new SSID (network name) and wireless password of my Ignite modem into the settings of each of my devices (computers, printer, iPod, etc.) before they would reconnect to my network. It also means that I cannot switch my modem security protocol from the default WPA2 to the more secure WPA3.
