Blue Curve vs wired cable

I have switched to Gateway and have some concerns.

1. It no longer allows me to rewind live TV past 20 - 30 min.  The old cable box allowed for 2 hours.  This is a bad thing, sometimes I get called away and want to rewind.

2. If I am watching behind the live TV time and want to go back to live TV, I cannot find a "live" button on the remote. I have had to use the fast forward to get back to live tv.

3. It does not connect with Chrome Cast, I would normally use this to get to streaming sites not supported with the Gateway like Disney+.  The wired modem had no problem with a Chrome Cast.

@JLLoney --

1. How full is the PVR -- how much room to auto-record a "live" broadcast?  Previously, were you viewing/recording in Standard Definition, while now you are viewing/recording in High Definition, which consumes more disk-space per minute. Also, the Gateway has more tuners than previous PVRs -- it could be recording on each of those channels, using more of the disk-drive's capacity.  Instead, press RECORD before you get called away.

2. Press "channel-up" and then "channel-down", to discard all the "buffered" content, and to return to "live" viewing.

3. From what device are you "casting" to the Chromecast device?  It is your device, not the Gateway, that is pulling content over the Internet. Have you reconfigured the Chromecast device, to connect the newly-installed WiFi network (SSID/password). Presumably, your TV has multiple HDMI inputs (one for the Gateway, and one connected to the Chromecast), and you need to "switch" your TV between HDMI #1 and HDMI #2.

More details, please.

When you refer to “wired cable” are you talking about the Shaw legacy gear or Blue Curve Wired. Sounds like your complaints have more to do with Cloud PVR.

@JLLoney -- I cannot find a "live" button on the remote.

I have the Shaw Gateway PVR, not the Shaw BlueCurve PVR.

So, I don't have access to Shaw's "Cloud PVR".

But, my Shaw-provided remote-control for the Gateway has 4 buttons on the top row, and the right-most button is labelled "Live".

I have Fibre+ 300 & Total TV.  I don't always have time to hit the record button and when I am streaming Netfix or Prime, it does not allow me to rewind the TV channel if I missed something.  I know this seems a small thing but I find it very frustrating.  Perhaps I want to restart the show and am at 45 min, it won't let me go far enough back.  I really miss the live button but will put up with the pg up and pg down.  I will try connecting my chromcast via the instructions I have found.  Thank you.

I think we have different remotes.  I have been informed that I need to do two steps, pg up and pg down to go to live tv.

Exact same issue as number one. With gateway I could go back and forth between two channels and rewind either one. I could also pause one go to another channel, pause it and use last to go back and the channel would resume from pause. I could watch two games, pausing when a commercial started, got to the other which would resume and keep doing that. Used it all the time when watching sports.

I found that you can also press the down button, which opens a menu at the bottom of the screen. Then press the right arrow to select the “chapter skip” icon and press “ok”. That takes you straight to “live”.
