New home problems

So my daughter and family moved today and I am the technical guy so I got to do there shaw hookup at the new place. They had 2 4K (XG1v4) boxes and 4 (XiD) boxes at the old place. I took all the splitters from the old place and tried to replicate it at the new place. So what we have is the main feed coming in from outside and is connected to a 2 way splitter. One feed goes to the cable modem which works fine and one feed goes to a 4 way splitter for the TV runs throughout the house. Now I initially tried connecting one of the XG1v4 to any of the 4 rooms upstairs that have cable run to them. No go just won't connect. So I tried with the other XG1v4 and same thing. Won't connect. So I brought a TV and a XG1v4 down to the mechanical room in the basement and ran a line off the 4 way splitter in that room and lo and behold it works fine. So I tried the other XG1v4 and it works in that configuration as well. So I ran a line off the 4 way splitter to a 2 way splitter and both XG1v4 off the 2 way splitter and they both work. With both XG1v4 boxes running in the mechanical room I can successfully connect any of the 4 XiD boxes to any of the existing cable runs upstairs and they work fine. I am baffled as to why I can't get either of the XG1v4 boxes to work off any of the cable outlets in any of the rooms upstairs though as the XID boxes all work fine. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Are there any other cable-outlets in the house, other than those 4? There might be a splitter somewhere, so that 2 rooms are fed from a splitter, rather than being a contiguous run from the 4-way splitter?

There are only the 4 cable outlets in the house. And as far as I know there are no other splitters anywhere.

Do the XG1v4 boxes need a better signal than the XID boxes?

How old is the house? Pull the wall plates and check the connections and try using your internet modem to see if you get a signal.

Signal strength is more important for the XG1s, and is not an issue for XIDs.

It's a newer house. 5 or 6 years old I think. It was just loose cable in the mechanical room. I had to put ends on the cable and crimp them. I'll try moving the modem around the house today and see if it can get a signal in the upstairs rooms with the cable runs.

Newer house like that likely don’t have internal splits, so ya, probably just the bad connection.

What happens if you temporarily bypass that 1-to-2 splitter, other than disconnecting your cable-modem, i.e., connect the cable from outside directly into the 4-way splitter?  Do any of 4 upstairs wall-ports work when either the cable-modem or the XID box or the XG1v4 box is connected?

What happens if the outside feed is connected to the 1-to-2 splitter, and then 2 of the runs of cable from upstairs are connected to this splitter? Two of the upstairs wall-ports should be "alive", but again test those ports with the cable-modem or the XID box or the XG1v4 box. Which units connect?

So I tested with the cable modem and it wouldn't connect either. So I ended up cutting and redoing all the outlets in the rooms upstairs. That fixed the problem on all the rooms but 1. Of course it is the main living room with the only 4K tv so they would like to have a XG1v4 box there. A shaw tech is coming out tomorrow and I told my daughter to ask him for an amplifier. See if cleaning and boosting the signal a bit will help that 1 outlet that is still giving me problems.

Installing an amp inside a moca network will cause problems. I take it that you won’t be there for the service call, it would be nice if you could get the technician to tone out the outlet to make sure it is actually connected, or if you could get your hands on a toner and check yourself.

XID box works fine on the outlet so it is connected. I'm assuming it's ether just not getting a strong or clean enough signal to that 1 outlet for some reason. Can Shaw boost the signal levels into the house a bit from there end? And yes I unfortunately will be at work when the Shaw tech is scheduled to come. The other thing they are considering is switching to the wireless boxes.
