How about TSN and Sports Net? That's why we feel tied to cable.
I never imagined that, at this stage in my life, I would be taking such a huge technological step backward.
Ignite was created by a first-year programming class.
More I use this system, more frustrated I get. I read in help forum that if you record the show and jump away and then jump back, that you would be able to rewind to the beginning of when you went to that channel the first time. But, that is not working for me. Thinking about this, if this is all cloud based, I don't understand why if visiting a channel, that we are not able to go to beginning of show. Since cloud based, you would think it would be easy to allow us have access to whole show. But, to take away so much functionality just seems wrong.
@legendofthewest You don’t need cable for TSN and Sportsnet.
@ksbigfoot Recording and bouncing between channels is not an effective solution to your problem. The Gateway had 6 tuners and a hard drive to buffer your recent channels, the Ignite cloud recording cannot do the same thing.
On PVR we could fast forward through commercials. Fast forward in Ignite is like going back to the stoneages. In gateway, if I wanted to look closely at an NHL hockey play, I could rewind and easily control second by second. There is NO way you want to try this with Ignite. And what mental giant designed the Ignite remote? The spring on the centre button is so resistant I have RSI after 2 hours. Someone should be sued.
@NathanielNathan You can FF through commercials with Ignite.
Yes, you “can” FF through commercials. You also “can” ride a bicycle to Mexico. But that isn’t efficient.
I’v been a Gateway user for more than 10 years. Imagine the slap upside the head I feel as Rogers has forced me into obsolete “functionality” … if you can call it that.
I’m sure Ignite is a money saver for Rogers. That’s the only possible excuse for this. As I told my spouse, “There is one big upside to this…. I’ll be watching less TV.
Here is just one example of a step backwards. On Gateway I could watch a hockey and a football game simultaneously. During a commercial break, I could switch from hockey back to football. If I saw something dramatic had occurred, I could rewind to see it. Perhaps an hour of action would be available to me.
With Ignite, if you try that, you find that ZERO of the football has been saved. You watch one channel or the other… and what happens when you’re not watching is lost.
The worst thing is that this was foisted on me. I did NOT want to change

On the current Rogers remote-control, while watching a recording, you may press the "microphone" button, and speak "skip 60 seconds" to completely bypass the commercial. However, if you are watching an "on demand" recording (one that you did not make) then the "commercials" are not included -- you may see a "promotion" for another show -- "new episode of Survivor this week". So, a 60-minute program becomes a 46-minute "on-demand" show.

On the new hardware, press "record" before you switch away from hockey, switch to football, press "record", switch back to hockey, and "rewind" will be available to you, on both channels.
Clumsy, but it works.
