Sure it can. And you can fly coach and that can feel normal if that's your only flying experience.
But if you spent the last several years flying first class, coach feels much worse.
@bernardf Not quite sure what you are looking for, but one pause and records just like the other. Anyway, at least you are free to cancel.
I think I outlined in my original post how much poorer the experience is. And I believe @kenmal55 's reply reinforced that point.
Did you ever own a gateway/portal system? If you never had the experience, it may sound the same on paper, but as @kenmal55 said, when you had a vastly superior experience, it feels like a downgrade.
After 23 years being a loyal customer with a relatively expensive package (I spend about $2500 per year on the service), I guess I'm just said about having to leave not because of content or cost, but because of a forced device "upgrade" that I never wanted and that took away many of the reasons why I stayed with cable service.
@bernardf I had the first version of the gateway, the suitcase sized box installed in my garage. Anyway, to each his own, the Ignite features outweigh any shortfall with the recording and pausing (not sure what it is). When I switched from the wired to wireless Ignite, all my recordings and scheduled recording came with them. The other day we were out of town in a hotel, plugged in my FireTv Stick into the TV, fired
up the Ignite app and watched some recordings.
Anyway, canceling is probably your best option.

What did your son recommend as a better alternative? Did you take his advice?
😄It only records while you are watching - NOT when you leave the channel - a major fault compared to the Gateway system! Try re-winding a channel you just left (like news) - there is nothing stored. The abiity to set up a number of channels by just clicking on them, enabled constant recording in the background, and was a wonderul benefit of my old Gateway system with 4 digital boxes. It enabled me to channel hop and avoid the copious adverts - which is no longer possible (could this actually be the intent, by Rogers?). My new Ignite system also has 4 (tiny) boxes but seems to lack the tuners in them, so live storage is non-existent unless you actually ask it to record a specific show - it doesn't do it automatically (in the background) like Gateway did
The Gateway system had simple skip forward AND backward options of just 15, 30 seconds, etc. Ignite only takes you back 5 minutes! I'm still new to using this but, again, Ignite is not as flexible as Gateway was. The remote appears to lack some functionality compared to Gateway but, admittedly, I'm still at the learning stage
The Ignite picture quality is wonderful - proper high definition on ALL channels I have found so far. I was spending $3000 a year (around $250 month) when I had to renew my contract and lose the Gateway option and certain discounts on my package, whether I liked it or not! I'd have been happy to keep it at the same price if Gateway was still available. Fortunately I've saved a few dollars monthly, with my new contract but Ignite is definitely not as simple and comprehensive - with the ability to skip adverts easily like Gateway was. I believe this is due to the lack of individual tuners in my digital boxes (which are now tiny). I've not had it long enough to find all the advantages yet (like when travelling) but am disappointed so far, as I sit here on my sofa watching the Olympics working out what channel to press record for later viewing 😁
